In recent months, hundreds of workers at King Minh Ceramic Tile Manufacturing Company Limited and Dong Nai Granite Tile Company Limited (Bien Hoa City) have continuously called for help from authorities due to unpaid wages and failure to close their social insurance books.
Mr. Doan Ngoc Qui - a worker at Dong Nai Granite Tile Company, nearly 50 years old - said that the company owed him many months of salary and had not paid 7 months of insurance, causing Mr. Qui to not be able to close the insurance to apply for unemployment insurance.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Sang - a worker at Dong Nai Granite Tile Company, life is very difficult, he wants the company to pay workers' salaries as well as insurance so that their benefits are not affected.
According to information from Dong Nai Province Social Insurance, 2 companies owe employees' insurance more than 2 billion VND.
Currently, the two above companies have just informed employees regarding salary payment and social insurance. Suffering continuous losses for a long time, the company was forced to temporarily suspend production from August 26, 2024.
The company also added that although it is very difficult, the company will try to implement the remaining policies to ensure full benefits for employees.
Currently, due to limited financial resources, the company only has enough to pay salaries for July and August for staff and employees. For September salary, the company only pays a maximum of 14 days of waiting salary according to the regional minimum wage (VND 4,960,000/month) and actual working days. The remaining days are unpaid leave. Payment of annual leave and KPI for employees who quit their jobs in accordance with regulations in September 2024 will be paid in December 2024.
For the procedure of closing the social insurance book, the company will carry out 2 steps: At the end of October 2024, the unemployment insurance participation period will be finalized until September 2024 for employees who have quit their jobs to receive unemployment insurance. In November 2024, the book will be reserved and the social insurance will be finalized until September 2024 for employees who have quit their jobs.
Workers' policies are affected.
Bach Thanh Ceramic Tile Company Limited on Road No. 3, Nhon Trach 1 Industrial Park (Nhon Trach District) also owes 2 months of salary and 12 months of insurance to about 200 workers.
The company has also announced the payment of salaries for July and August 2024 to employees. Accordingly, for managers from team leader and above and indirect workers, on October 5, 50% of the remaining July 2024 salary will be paid. On October 20, 50% of the August 2024 salary will be paid and on October 30, 50% of the remaining August 2024 salary will be paid.
For direct production workers, 50% of August 2024 salary will be paid on October 5; the remaining 50% of August 2024 salary will be paid on October 10.
According to information from Dong Nai Province Social Insurance, Bach Thanh Ceramic Tile Company Limited has 244 employees who are also in debt for 12 months with a total debt of social insurance, health insurance, unemployment insurance, and occupational accident and disease insurance of nearly 5 billion VND.
Mr. Pham Long Son - Deputy Director of Dong Nai Province Social Insurance, said that some units have large amounts of late payment, the late payment period is prolonged, causing many difficulties in confirming social insurance books and resolving policies for employees.
According to authorities, if businesses do not close social insurance books for employees, it will directly affect their immediate and long-term benefits.
The Dong Nai Provincial Federation of Labor requests that grassroots unions coordinate with enterprises to fully implement policies and regulations to ensure workers' rights. At the same time, they should increase job referrals for laid-off or unemployed workers, helping them return to the labor market soon. From now until the end of 2024, unions at all levels will focus on stabilizing labor relations and grasping the situation of union members and workers who are underemployed, unemployed, or have their labor contracts suspended.
