Life has been turned upside down since the day the business owner fled
Recently, Lao Dong Newspaper received a petition for help from the collective of workers of Daeduk Vina Co., Ltd. ( DEEP C2B Industrial Park in Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone) about the Korean director fleeing, not paying salaries and social insurance to employees for the past 3 months.
Daeduk Vina Co., Ltd. will start production in the fourth quarter of 2024, specializing in the production and processing of automobile electric cables. April 15 was the March salary payment date according to the company's regulations, but due to no money to pay salaries and factory rental, the factory had to cut off electricity, water and sealing. On April 14, April 15 and April 17, the company announced by text message that it would give employees a basic salary leave from April 15 to April 4 to wait for their salary. The company's leaders promised to pay the salary on April 29, then arranged to pay the workers' March and February salaries by May 10. However, as of May 15, the employee has not yet received his salary. On May 30, workers discovered that the business owner had fled, along with the amount of wages owed to workers amounting to nearly 1.5 billion VND.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the salary owed to workers, this company owes social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance for March and April 2025, greatly affecting the rights of employees, and the lives of employees face many difficulties and deadlocks.
For example, Mr. Do Van Duc and his wife, Ms. Bui Viet Chinh have both worked at Daeduk Company since the company first started operating. The couple went from Quang Ninh to Hai Phong to work. Previously, the total monthly income was about 16 million VND, just enough to cover the basic needs of the couple and their young children, with almost no savings. The business owner's escape and unpaid wages affect not only Ms. Chinh's life but also her spirit, especially when this September, her family will have a new member.
"Both husband and wife were unemployed at the same time, all their activities were turned upside down. The biggest difficulty is that the company owes social insurance, so workers cannot close their books to find new jobs. The biggest worry is that when I give birth, I will not be paid for maternity benefits while the company still owes social insurance and health insurance" - Ms. Chinh shared.
As for Mr. Duc, Ms. Chinh's husband, the biggest wish is to soon close the social insurance book to quickly find a job, reducing the economic pressure of the family.
Trade unions accompany and support employees
On the afternoon of June 18, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation held a meeting and presented support to 44 employees in difficult circumstances of Daeduk Vina Company Limited.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Phiet - Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation - listened to the thoughts and aspirations, and shared the difficulties with employees when they lost their jobs, owed wages, and social insurance. At the same time, direct the Department of Legal Policy and Labor Relations to coordinate with the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union to grasp the living conditions of workers and propose timely support plans.
In the immediate future, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation will provide support funds to 44 company union members, each worth 2 million VND from the City Labor Federation's Shelter Fund.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phiet - Vice Chairman of the City Labor Federation said that in addition to the above support fund, the City Labor Federation is coordinating with relevant agencies to resolve problems in the social insurance regime and policies for employees. At the same time, it is recommended that the City People's Committee pay attention to resolving and promptly supporting employees who are lacking jobs due to the employer's flight.
Previously, in August 2019, a similar incident occurred in Hai Phong when the leader of Kai Yang Company Limited (Kien An District) fled while owing wages and social insurance to more than 2,000 workers. Hai Phong City then established a working group to support the settlement of the incident.
