Number of suspected poisoning patients continues to increase
On the morning of September 12, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Kiem Hao - Director of Hue City Department of Health said that as of the morning of September 12, Hue Central Hospital, facility 2, had received 107 cases, and Phong Dien Medical Center received 14 cases related to the suspected food poisoning incident at Scavi Hue Company.
The workers were hospitalized with symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loose stools. Through initial examination, doctors determined that many cases showed signs of acute gastroenteritis, suspected of being related to the food poisoning incident.
Currently, the patients' health is basically stable, and they are being monitored and actively resuscitated. Cases with good progress may be discharged from the hospital in the near future," Mr. Hao informed.
According to Mr. Hao, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) - Hue City Department of Health has coordinated with relevant units to conduct epidemiological investigations, take food samples and specimens to determine the cause.
The Director of Hue City Department of Health said that in the face of the increasing number of workers with suspected poisoning symptoms, medical facilities are required to proactively mobilize personnel, medicines, and equipment to receive, classify and treat patients; paying special attention to cases with severe symptoms.
Urgently determine the cause, ensure the rights of workers
Regarding the incident, Mr. Ha Van Tuan - Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee and leaders of the City Industrial Park Management Board, Department of Health and related units came to Hue Central Hospital, facility 2 to visit and encourage the workers being treated.
Through initial assessment, the health status of the patients is basically under control, no cases of severe progression or transfer have been recorded. Patients continue to be monitored for timely treatment if abnormal signs appear.

Leaders of Hue City People's Committee requested the health sector to focus on treating and taking care of patients' health; and at the same time coordinate with specialized agencies to quickly test specimens, determine the cause of the incident to have appropriate handling directions.
For Scavi Hue Company, Hue City People's Committee requests the enterprise to arrange staff to monitor workers' health status, closely coordinate with medical facilities in the treatment process, and support workers when necessary.
Businesses are also required to strengthen propaganda on food safety, control operations at collective kitchens, and implement hygiene, disinfection, and sterilization in the processing and eating areas.
For the unit providing meals for Scavi Hue Company, functional agencies requested to continue to coordinate with the health sector in the process of investigating and verifying the cause; and at the same time review the entire process of providing and processing meals, ensuring food safety.
Ms. Tran Thi Kim Loan - Chairwoman of Hue City Labor Federation said that the Trade Union organization is closely monitoring the health situation of workers, and at the same time coordinating with businesses and related units to support workers during treatment.
