Opportunities to increase income
While many colleagues choose to return to their hometown during the April 30 - May 1 holiday, Ms. Ho Thi My Linh (a worker at an industrial park in Di An city, Binh Duong province) and her family decided to stay in the city to do extra seasonal work.
"For a family of 4, including travel and food expenses in the countryside, we will spend about 2 - 3 million VND. For this reason, the family has been working as a waiter and dishwasher at a restaurant since the evening of April 29, Ms. Linh shared.
Ms. Linh calculated that after nearly 3 days of work, family members have received more than 4 million VND, nearly equal to 1 month's basic salary of female workers.
During the recent holidays, Mr. Pham Ut Cung and his wife (workers at Tra Noc Industrial Park, Can Tho City) also stayed in the city to work overtime. Accordingly, the male worker took on the job of a weather inspector for the restaurant. His wife works part-time at a nail shop with agreed wages and commissions based on the number of customers served.
"Although we only work for 2 holidays, my husband and I earn nearly 1.7 million VND. Although the amount is not too large, it is enough for us to pay the child's deposit this summer. Although working during holidays is hard, having more income to cover my living expenses and take care of my family makes me happy, Mr. Cung shared.
Creating joy with your family
Working extra seasonal jobs to increase income, Ms. Linh's family still balances the time to rest and relax during the holidays. In a small room, the female worker's family and a few neighbors live together in a boarding house gathered next to a "prepared" meal tray with meat, fish, seafood, etc.
"For many reasons, many workers stay in the city during the holidays like my family. This boarding house is a four-country neighborhood, meeting each other and gradually becoming neighbors. Taking advantage of the time to eat and chat together helps me feel a little less homesick, Ms. Linh confided.
In addition to earning money to make ends meet, Mr. Cung and his wife also spend time with their daughter to go out during the holidays. If during the day, he and his wife are busy with extra work, then in the evening, after picking up their children at a private nursery, is a time for the whole family to relax.
"Unable to go home, the family also called me to talk to my grandparents. In addition to cooking delicious food, we also enlisted to take my daughter to the amusement parks that often did not have time to lead her.
