Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh has 6 years of experience as a human resource manager at a consumer goods manufacturing company in Tu Liem ward (Hanoi). The company has about 250 employees, of which about 220 are directly produced by workers.
For the past 6 years, Ms. Ngoc Anh's work has been purely human resource management, coordinating with a number of labor recruitment departments according to leadership requirements. "However, working at a direct production company is quite difficult, the labor turnover rate is quite large, so my work is quite busy," said Ms. Ngoc Anh.
From the end of 2024, Ms. Ngoc Anh was assigned by the company's leaders to directly connect with a number of large recruitment units to digitize the recruitment segment; contact AI training companies to train more skills related to artificial intelligence for departments in the company, especially in human resources and sales.
Connecting with recruiting units is not difficult for me, but the leaders require me to coordinate with AI training units and make a detailed training plan on the application of AI in human resource management and sales, which is a difficult problem for me personally. During the first 2 months of assigning tasks, I spent an additional hour a day learning and learning from the most basic knowledge, said Ms. Ngoc Anh.
Currently, Ms. Ngoc Anh has basically grasped new requirements related to work. She said that the first period was difficult, but now everything is gradually stabilizing: "I cherish the opportunity to work, I don't want to lose my job, so I get a new job without hesitation. I understand that if I don't try, the company will easily recruit new employees who are younger, more dynamic and better than me in AI-related skills."
Mr. Tran Van Quy works at the head office in Hanoi of a software company, holding the position of deputy department chairman. In November 2024, Mr. Quy was asked by the leaders to transfer to the Da Nang branch, in charge of training new technology for nearly 60 branch employees within 2 years. During the 2 years of "mission", if the board of directors had work related to expertise, Mr. Quy still had to return to provide technical support.
At first, I was quite shocked when I received the information. Since working at a company, I have only worked in Hanoi for 9 years, from an employee position to deputy department chair. With the majority of staff, having worked and been in the capital for nearly ten years, my wife and children are stable, and I will be very afraid to move to another locality, I am no exception. However, the leadership work required to be implemented at the Da Nang branch is quite new, the whole company only has me and 2 employees who have been sent to study this field. Another new point is that when working in Hanoi, I only "played the role" of deputy department head, when coming to Da Nang, I had to work in a group with my own staff and be the one to direct all groups that I had established myself," Mr. Quy shared.
Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment said that currently, many businesses are implementing many new areas of work related to AI technology, remote, flexible working models, etc.
Workers no longer have to do a fixed job as before but need to take on new functions, especially digital skills, soft skills and the ability to adapt to new requirements from employers. Current personnel must be aware that technology has, is and will deeply affect all aspects of life and operations of businesses. Therefore, many traditional jobs will change, increase requirements or "technicate". This reality requires workers to adapt, learn new skills and accept change if they do not want to be eliminated," said Mr. Le Quang Trung.
Mr. Trung also noted that in the current context, workers cannot only rely on existing experience or skills but need to proactively upgrade themselves in many aspects. Developing soft skills is an essential requirement and foundation for effective work in a volatile environment. In addition, mastering technology and the ability to utilize AI to support work has also become a mandatory requirement, said Mr. Trung.
