Job thinking is changing
The 8-hour working model per day in an office or factory was once considered the standard of the labor market. However, in recent years, this concept is gradually changing as more and more young workers want a more flexible working style. Instead of sticking to fixed hours, they are looking for an environment that allows them to be proactive about time, location and working methods.
Mr. Tran Viet Anh, born in 2002 - a bachelor in fashion design, said that the mentality of working 8 fixed hours a day is no longer suitable for the rhythm of life and needs of many young workers and for himself personally.
For me and the business where I work, work efficiency is more important than sitting in the office. I appreciate it and want to contribute to businesses that evaluate employees based on work results instead of working hours," said Mr. Viet Anh.
Mr. Viet Anh is currently an office fashion designer at a domestic fashion brand. Mr. Viet Anh revealed that his KPI is not "gentle", but because he has agreed to be proactive in time, he still completes the work to ensure requirements and has never used up the deadline set by the business.
I am disciplined in freedom, which is also one of the motivations for me to be responsible for my work," Mr. Viet Anh affirmed.
Similarly, Mr. Bui Duc Viet - an information technology engineer currently working for a corporation in Cau Giay ward (Hanoi) said that in the fields of technology, communication, design or marketing, the trend of working remotely and working flexibly has become more popular after the pandemic.
“Some businesses allow employees to work in a hybrid form – combining office work and remote work. This helps employees save travel time, while creating conditions to balance work and personal life. I used to work fixed office hours, but after switching to a flexible working environment, work efficiency is even higher. For me, being proactive in time helps reduce pressure and increase creativity,” Mr. Viet said.
Along with the development of digital technology, many new forms of work are appearing. Remote work, project-based work, freelance work or participating in online job platforms are becoming the choice of many young people.
Some young workers choose to do multiple jobs at the same time instead of sticking to a fixed position. They can work for many different customers or businesses, as long as they ensure progress and work quality.
Need to adapt to new trends
According to Ms. Hoang Anh - Director of Viet Anh Technology and Trading Co., Ltd. (Gia Lam ward, Hanoi), young workers today value flexibility, experience and personal development opportunities. Many people no longer set a goal to work long-term at a business but are willing to change the working environment if they feel unsuitable. This change partly reflects the global trend of the labor market, when technology allows people to work anywhere and at any time.

This new trend forces businesses to adjust human resource management policies. My company has applied a flexible working regime, allowing employees to choose working hours or work remotely for a certain number of days, in a certain field. However, switching from a traditional management model to a flexible model is not always easy. For many businesses, in the field of production or direct services, maintaining a fixed working time frame is still a necessary requirement to ensure operational operations," Ms. Hoang Anh shared.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Tran Anh Duc - Director of Bien Dong Group Joint Stock Company (Giang Vo ward, Hanoi) said that a flexible, remote working model if not well controlled may affect the coordination between departments or reduce discipline in the organization.
We are looking for ways to balance the flexible needs of workers and the operating requirements of businesses in the context that the trend of flexible work will continue to develop in the coming years, especially in industries related to technology and creative services," according to Mr. Duc.
Mr. Duc also admitted that in the context of a rapidly changing labor market, both businesses and workers need to adapt to new trends. Businesses need to build a flexible working environment but still ensure efficiency and labor discipline. Meanwhile, workers also need to improve their skills, self-awareness and job management skills to suit the new working model.
