Support children in difficult circumstances
As one of the poor but good students , LAK (a student at Ngo Quyen High School, Chau Duc District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) was touched when she received attention, support, and conditions to go to school. Her husband suffered a stroke and lost his ability to work. Ms. LTT (LAK's mother) is a worker at Uy Viet Shoe Manufacturing Company Ltd. with a salary of about 7 million VND/month, becoming the main laborer in the family. The whole family is renting a room and paying for her husband's medical treatment, but Ms. T's health is not good, she often gets sick, making the family even more difficult.
In the case of Ms. NTH (a worker at Dong Xuyen Industrial Park, Vung Tau City), she is a single mother raising 2 children to study. All 3 members of the family are renting a room, with the main income being a worker's salary of just over 7 million VND/month. Although the family is in difficulty as Ms. H is being treated for gallstones and urinary tract infection, which affects her ability to work, NTPT (Ms. H's daughter - grade 12 at Vung Tau High School) has strived to achieve excellent academic results in the past school year.
These are 2 of 71 cases of students who have overcome difficulties to study well and have just been awarded the long-term Nguyen Duc Canh scholarship by the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Labor Federation. This is one of the programs to care for and support children of workers in difficult circumstances, helping them go to school by the provincial Labor Union at all levels.
Responsibility for the career of "growing people"
The Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Federation of Labor said that, in addition to taking care of the material and spiritual life of union members and workers, there is also the concern and support for the children of union members and workers. That is also the responsibility of the Trade Union organization with the cause of "growing people", helping workers feel secure in their work and production.
During the recent summer vacation, the provincial Trade Union at all levels continuously mobilized and encouraged benefactors, agencies, units, and organizations to give gifts to disadvantaged but studious students. Through that, many gifts such as school bags, means of transportation, etc. to support going to school were given to children of employees in difficult circumstances.
“This past summer, more than 1,000 gifts including money, books, school bags, vehicles... were given by the Trade Unions at all levels to children of workers in difficult circumstances in Dat Do district, supporting them in their studies,” said Mr. Le Van Quan - Chairman of the Dat Do District Labor Federation.
According to statistics from the Provincial Federation of Labor, there are also a series of programs organized by trade unions at all levels aimed at children of union members and workers that have been recently implemented. For example, summer camps organized by the Dat Do District Federation of Labor to train life skills for more than 100 children of workers; Chau Duc District Federation of Labor gave gifts to 47 children of workers in difficult circumstances and with illnesses with a total amount of 23.5 million VND; Trade Unions under the Provincial Civil Servants' Trade Union gave 2,511 gifts to students with a total value of more than 293 million VND...
"In the near future, the Provincial Federation of Labor will coordinate with units and organizations to award scholarships to support students in difficult circumstances right at the opening of the new school year," said Ms. Hoang Thi Hai - Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Federation of Labor.
According to the Provincial Federation of Labor, taking care of children of employees in difficult circumstances is also a practical activity in the work of comprehensively caring for their material and spiritual lives, helping employees feel secure in their work and production to contribute to the development of the locality. At the same time, it also encourages and gives them more determination to overcome their circumstances, strive to study and become useful people for society.
