Vietnam Social Security said that when considering participating in voluntary social insurance, workers often pay attention to their pension benefits. However, the value of the policy is also reflected in the longer-term social security meaning.
Not only stopping at monthly income, pensioners are also issued health insurance cards with high payment levels. This is a practical benefit, especially in the context of increasing medical costs and increasing healthcare needs for the elderly.
Voluntary social insurance policies are also being gradually improved in the direction of approaching compulsory social insurance.
Supplementing maternity benefits for participants is an important step forward, contributing to enhancing benefits and increasing the attractiveness of policies.
In addition, the State continues to implement policies to support contribution levels for some groups such as poor and near-poor households, thereby reducing the initial financial burden and encouraging people to participate.
Social insurance added that in recent years, voluntary social insurance policies have had many important adjustments, gradually creating more favorable conditions for informal sector workers to participate in and enjoy pension benefits.
A notable highlight is that the 2024 Law on Social Insurance has stipulated reducing the minimum contribution period to receive a pension to 15 years (instead of 20 years as before), opening up opportunities for many people to participate late or have a non-continuous contribution process.
Along with perfecting institutions, the scale of social insurance participation continues to be expanded, creating a foundation for increasing the number of people eligible to receive pensions in the future.
According to a report by Vietnam Social Security, in 2025, the whole country had about 3.3 million people participating in social insurance, of which about 2.4% of the working-age population participated in voluntary social insurance.
This is a positive sign, reflecting the trend that more and more workers are interested in accumulating long-term social security.
Reality in many localities shows that the number of people gradually completing the conditions to receive pensions from voluntary social insurance is tending to increase.
Along with that, promoting digital transformation in the field of social insurance also contributes to improving policy access.
In 2025, the entire Vietnamese social insurance system received and processed more than 49.9 million dossiers, of which over 98% were resolved on time or early.
These results show the clear effectiveness of administrative procedure reform, contributing to bringing policies closer to the people.
The practice of implementing voluntary social insurance policies shows that when policies are designed appropriately and implemented effectively, people are increasingly proactive in participating and engaging for a long time.
In the context of a aging population, expanding social insurance coverage is not only a policy goal but also an urgent requirement to ensure socio-economic stability.
Along with that, the social security system is increasingly being comprehensively improved, in which social insurance and health insurance are two important pillars, complementing each other in ensuring people's lives and health care.
