In 2021, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor signed a cooperation program for the period 2021 - 2026. According to assessments, in this period, in the field of sports, agencies have focused on building propaganda programs on the benefits of physical education and sports activities to help improve physical fitness, practice health, serve production tasks, and encourage workers, civil servants, and laborers (CNVCNLĐ) to voluntarily choose a suitable form of training.
The parties also coordinate to organize sports tournaments and Culture and Sports Festivals. The Trade Union coordinates with the government and business owners to invest and upgrade facilities to serve training activities by renovating yards, gyms, gyms, purchasing equipment for workers and employees to practice after working hours, strengthening sports exchanges to jointly aim for the goal: Healthy to improve labor productivity.
In 2024, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Vietnam Public Sector Trade Union continued to implement the coordination program for the period 2024 - 2028. Previously, the two agencies had implemented the coordination program for the period 2019 - 2023 and were assessed to achieve positive results.
Exchanging about the coordination program, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports Le Thi Hoang Yen once expressed: "Through professional activities and coordination programs, sports tournaments among officials, civil servants, public employees and laborers organized annually by the Vietnam Public Sector Trade Union take place practically. This is assessed from the large number of participants and the number of tournaments, the number of sports put into competition appropriately, contributing to improving the health of workers. Sports help improve health. This is a component to tighten the relationship between each individual civil servant, public employee and laborer with collectives and units with trade union organizations directly under the Vietnam Public Sector Trade Union...".
Previously, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Training and Environment, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Ha Viet once assessed that sports activities and sports tournaments are inseparable from the life and working process of workers and employees in trade union organizations in Vietnam. Therefore, the contents on physical education and sports included in the annual work plan of each unit will contribute to promoting the physical education and sports movement in the Vietnam Public Sector Trade Union at all levels.
To the effective program
In 2024, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Public Sector Trade Union Sports Festival once took place, attracting nearly 2,000 athletes who are officials, CNVCNLĐ working in ministries, departments, branches, unions, central non-business units, with trade unions directly under the Vietnam Public Sector Trade Union competing. The tournament brought exciting professional competitions in men's football, badminton, table tennis, tug of war. However, the biggest point recorded is that participants had the opportunity to interact and connect with each other.
Because sports are competition but also a spiritual bridge, creating meaningful exchange. On the competition field, after sweating to exhaust themselves to achieve results, each athlete still comes together with a sincere handshake and a bonded smile. That is the success that sports bring to activities to improve health, so that employees can achieve the best spirit before returning to work, achieving higher labor productivity.
This year, the 2026 Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Tournament will continue to be organized. When developing the idea and forming the tournament, the organizing committee set the top goal of creating a useful playground, improving the health of workers and employees nationwide. Representatives of many Labor Federations with teams participating in the tournament gave a general assessment that football and the above tournament are therapies to help workers and employees reduce stress at work, and at the same time build solidarity from each person, creating a team, the strongest team.
Therefore, teams formed with "homegrown" players who are CNVCNLĐ of their own units receive very enthusiastic cheers from the audience. Above all, being able to compete also helps them improve their health and promote the sports movement for workers and civil servants.
And practical value
Currently, many sports and sports tournaments organized for CNVCNLĐ take place annually at many trade union organizations and in many localities. Not only football, table tennis, tug of war, badminton, but many other sports are also of interest and participation to workers.
For example, the 2026 Olympic Running Day was held in many localities across the country in March 2026, attracting tens of thousands of participants. Workers, civil servants, and laborers and trade union members participated enthusiastically. According to the assessment of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, many running races have been and are being held at industrial clusters in some localities for workers, civil servants, and laborers to participate.
The value of athletics is not only in achievements, but when completing the competition distance, each person sees their ability to exceed their limit. That also helps them have a good spirit to enthusiastically work because they understand that personal value is never limited," General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation Nguyen Manh Hung once expressed.
Pickleball has also gradually become a sport of interest in the workforce because it is easy to access and when competing on the field, they are energized and relieved of pressure after working hours. Although the data has not been officially announced, according to the pickleball department (Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam), most localities in the country and many industries have organized pickleball tournaments specifically for workers to participate in competitions and improve their health.
Pickleball is a new sport but also a very effective spiritual connection between players. Surely after stressful working hours, when holding rackets to compete, civil servants, public employees, and workers will have moments of relaxation when playing sports at their level," expressed a representative of pickleball (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports).
