Caring for from what workers need
Having been associated with trade union activities for many years, Ms. Trinh Thi Nguyet always believes that the effectiveness of the Trade Union organization must first of all be expressed by the benefits and sharing that union members and workers receive.
Alena Vietnam Shoe Co., Ltd., located in Yen Dinh commune, Thanh Hoa province, currently has about 11,000 workers. For a large-labor enterprise, Ms. Nguyet determined that the Chairman of the grassroots Trade Union must play a good role as a bridge, both protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers and contributing to building stable labor relations.
In all activities, what I and the Trade Union Executive Committee aim for is to take good care of and bring as many practical values as possible to workers" - Ms. Nguyet shared.
During Workers' Month and Action Month for Occupational Safety and Health in 2026, many care activities were implemented.
On the occasion of Workers' Month, all union members and employees in the company were given gifts with a total amount of more than 1.7 billion VND. The "Heather Cooling Summer" program was implemented with a budget of more than 93 million VND to care for workers' health during hot weather.
In particular, when union member Nguyen Duy T. unfortunately passed away, Ms. Nguyet directly came to share condolences with the family and launched the "Golden Heart Alena" program. More than 112 million VND donated by officials, union members, and workers has been given to the family.
Not only caring for material things, Ms. Nguyet believes that workers need space for cultural and sports activities after working hours. From there, she and the Trade Union Executive Committee built the "Worker Cultural Space" model with an area of nearly 70m2, put into use from May 9, 2026.
The space has a reading area, entertainment, sports, ao dai cabinet, a traditional introduction area of the company and the Trade Union organization, creating a place for workers to relax, exchange and access legal and social knowledge. The Company's Trade Union also launched labor production emulation, rewarding 178 outstanding union members with a total amount of nearly 100 million VND; organized a tug-of-war tournament with 16 men's and 16 women's teams participating.
Change ways of working to be closer to workers
One of the things Ms. Nguyet is concerned about is how to make the Trade Union organization with thousands of union members able to quickly grasp thoughts and recommendations from each workshop and production line.
Previously, workers' feedback was mainly received through suggestion boxes or group meetings, so summarizing sometimes took a lot of time. From that reality, she proposed building a Company Trade Union fanpage to both propagate activities and receive feedback from union members via Messenger. At the same time, to fully grasp the thoughts and aspirations of union members, every quarter, the Trade Union also creates a link to survey the level of employee satisfaction.
Opinions related to regimes, working conditions, and labor relations are received and transferred for timely handling. According to Ms. Nguyet, quick feedback helps workers feel that their voice is being heard, and at the same time helps the Trade Union to detect early problems that may arise in labor relations.
Another way is the "Hour Break Radio" program. Contents on labor law, social insurance, regulations and policies of enterprises are converted into short 10-15 minute radio programs, broadcast on the internal loudspeaker system at the end of lunch break.
The Trade Union also designed a concise infographic, transferring it to Zalo groups to inform each department. In May 2026 alone, the Trade Union Fanpage posted more than 40 news, articles, videos, and images, reaching more than 5,200 interactions; more than 10 internal radio programs were implemented.
In parallel with care work, Ms. Nguyet coordinated with the labor safety department to inspect the operating procedures of machinery, propose to improve working conditions in the hot season, propagate safety rules and propose remedies for unsafe risks.
With unremitting efforts and good care for union members and workers, Ms. Nguyet has been praised and rewarded many times by the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation. Especially recently, Ms. Nguyet was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for her outstanding achievements in caring for workers on the occasion of Workers' Month 2026.
