Thien Thanh Five Star Factory resumes operations after 1 year of suspension

Ha Tinh – After more than a year of suspension, Thien Thanh Five Star garment factory has resumed operations, creating opportunities for many workers to return to work.

On the afternoon of February 5, Ms. Cu Thi Bich Thuan - Chairwoman of the Huong Son District Labor Federation - said that after more than 1 year of inactivity, the Thien Thanh Five Star Garment Factory (in Son Kim 1 Commune, Huong Son District, Dai Kim Industrial Park) has resumed operations with a new owner, a foreign enterprise (in Korea) that bought the factory. At the same time, the name of the factory has also been changed to Five Star Garment Factory.

According to Ms. Thuan, the Five Star Garment Factory has only been operating for a month now with about 50 workers. The factory is currently recruiting 500 workers, and after it becomes stable and expands its market, it can recruit up to 2,000 workers.

However, at present, recruiting workers is facing difficulties, and the number of workers required has not been recruited.

“Currently, the company has rehired a number of workers who had to leave their jobs due to the factory's shutdown. With the factory having a relatively large demand for workers, it has created opportunities for many workers who previously lost their jobs as well as for workers in localities near the factory,” Ms. Thuan shared.

Also according to the Chairman of the Huong Son District Labor Federation, at the working session, grasping the production situation of Five Star Garment Factory, the Huong Son District Labor Federation also raised the issue of promoting the establishment of a grassroots trade union of the Company. The Company's representative also promised that when it goes into stable operation, they will create conditions for the establishment of a grassroots trade union.

Mr. Hoang Van Thu - Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Kim 1 Commune also informed that the local government representative was very excited that after more than 1 year of inactivity, Thien Thanh Five Star Garment Factory has now resumed operations, creating job opportunities for local workers. At the same time, it also creates opportunities for the development of restaurant, food and beverage services near the factory.

Previously, Lao Dong reported that from November 1, 2023, Thien Thanh Five Star garment factory with more than 300 workers announced to temporarily suspend operations due to market and financial difficulties.

The plant announced that it expected to resume operations in a few weeks. However, it has been out of operation for more than a year.

At the end of August 2023, before temporarily suspending operations, Thien Thanh Five Star Garment Company delayed paying 2 months of wages to workers, causing workers to stop working collectively in protest. After that, the factory promised to arrange and pay workers soon, so it resumed operations.
