Promoting professional knowledge
Mr. Hoang Xuan Nghia (Hoang Mai District, Hanoi) was former deputy director of a Ministry-level professional department, retiring in April 2022.
After half a year of spending time with his family, Mr. Nghia began receiving phone calls from his former agency colleagues and reporters.
Comrades invite me to attend seminars and workshops as an expert; reporters from newspapers continuously ask me about the field I have pursued for more than 30 years. At first, I was a bit shy, but then I found that participating in forums and answering interviews would help my retirement life become less monotonous and boring because I went there, met my old colleagues... and also had passive income, said Mr. Nghia.
According to Mr. Nghia, a year ago, he agreed to sign a contract as an expert for a joint venture company with Japan as a senior consultant in human resources. The job is not too limited in time, brings in good income and helps him to use and promote a lot of professional knowledge.
I am very satisfied with the second period in my working life. However, to meet the current job requirements, I not only use my inherent knowledge but also have to improve and update more knowledge to meet the job requirements" - Mr. Nghia shared.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (character's name has been changed), currently living in Cau Giay District (Hanoi), used to be a senior specialist of a State agency. Before retiring in June 2022, Ms. Hoa had a very careful plan for the " sense of retirement" period.
I accept to write books in the professional fields I have worked in, sign a storage contract with a publishing unit to create pressure and motivation for myself, and participate in consulting for a non-governmental project. I will work at both ends of this job until the end of 2026. I am currently negotiating a project, if I agree, I will start work in mid-2026" - Ms. Hoa said.
New phase for studying and working
According to Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment, the reality shows that retirees are often workers over and under the age of 60, most of them are still eager and eager to continue working with the spirit of "retiring without quitting a job", "retiring is changing jobs", "still healthy and working" or "study and working for life"...

The majority of retirees, especially those working in state agencies, have a lot of experience and working skills, many have been trained in professional knowledge, skills, etc. More importantly, if they are healthy, they still want and crave to study and work to affirm their position and contribute to their family and society.
The current law of the Labor Code and the Law on Employment (Article 3) stipulates that the age of employees is from 15 years old or older, without the above age requirement, along with other regulations, creating conditions for retirees to continue working. In fact, many businesses recruit retirees from management, operation, consulting, direct production positions... to work, many people bring their knowledge and experience to share and contribute. At the same time, they are also able to share and receive information, learn new knowledge during their work, and continuously improve themselves to meet the needs of their work. This is a valuable human resource provided for the labor market, said Mr. Le Quang Trung.
According to Mr. Trung, there are many cases where retirees have just started to participate in training courses and advanced training according to their abilities and preferences to satisfy their desire to study and work or create jobs in the private economic sector and new economic fields.
I affirm that many people after retirement start a business, create jobs and attract many workers; many people after retirement actively participate in consulting, collaborating, teaching, scientific research, writing books, newspapers... so that they can work and constantly improve their qualifications, satisfy their passion and desire to study and work for life, Mr. Trung shared.
