Model for children
In recent years, the Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union (VTC) has implemented a Children's Reading Program to accompany workers in caring for and raising children. These programs are not only posted on the website and fanpage, but also stored on the YouTube channel of the Industry Union.
Each program has a introduction with specific introduction content so that cadres and employees can grasp the content before letting their children listen. For example, on March 31, when posting the reading program for children at 10-2025 on the fanpage, it was introduced: Little Berina - Part 6.
In the warm tropical forest, Berina met a fairy prince with the same petty figure as she was sitting among the brilliant flowers. The fairy-tale prince had feelings for Berina at first sight, he suggested inviting her to become the queen of flowers and giving her a pair of angel wings. After that, they flew back to the house where Berina grew up with her mother and lived happily forever...
Many workers in the industry share that due to the nature of their work, they have little time to read books for raising and teaching children, so the Children's Reading Program of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is very helpful for them. When they get married, go to their fanpage or YouTube channel to listen to.
To support union members and workers in taking care of their children, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation has maintained the Thanh Da Summer Farm model for more than 40 years.
Thanh Da Summer Camp contributes to taking care of and creating a healthy and useful playground during the summer days as well as promoting the education of children of employees about the tradition of drinking water remotely, educating the younger generation about ethics and lifestyle. At the same time, through activities of training self-awareness, discipline, practicing a civilized lifestyle, building independence, practical skills, and teamwork, children are more confident and steadfast in life. From the experience of the unit that has been implemented, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor guides the model of "Summer Camp for Workers' Children" for units to research and implement.
Model for mothers
One of the models that is being widely developed in businesses, creating conditions for employees to raise their young children with breast milk is the " Breast milk collection room at the workplace".
This model was implemented by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in conjunction with the communication program on breastfeeding with the support of Alive and Thrive since 2012. From the success of the model of breast milk storage room at the workplace, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has participated with the Government to include it in the 2019 Labor Code.
According to the provisions of Clause 5, Article 80 of Decree No. 145/2020/ND-CP detailing the 2019 Labor Code: For enterprises employing 1,000 or more female workers, the installation of a breast milk collection and storage room at the workplace is a mandatory provision.
For enterprises employing less than 1,000 female workers, it is recommended to install a breast milk collection and storage room suitable to the actual conditions at the workplace, the needs of female workers and the ability of employers.
Up to now, according to statistics from trade unions at all levels, over 1,500 milk storage rooms have been established in agencies and enterprises, bringing practical benefits to tens of thousands of female workers.
The 2024 survey of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor's Women's Union in 5 localities with many industrial parks and export processing zones, including Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City, Long An shows that the living conditions of workers in industrial parks and export processing zones still have many difficulties affecting the care and education of workers' children. Therefore, models of supporting workers in child care need to be replicated.
