Extending the love

The journey accompanying female worker Luong Thi Tinh - the person who selflessly saved two students in the storm is a vivid proof of the "for workers" mission that Lao Dong Newspaper has persistently maintained for 97 years.

The article becomes a bridge of love

In the late afternoon of March 2026, a sudden thunderstorm swept through Nghia Lo ward (Lao Cai province), knocking down many green trees on the streets. Amidst the whistling wind, broken branches and a stream of people rushing to find shelter, Ms. Luong Thi Tinh, an urban environmental worker, still quietly did her familiar job: Collecting tree branches, cleaning the road surface to ensure safety for people.

Few people expected that the afternoon shift that day would become a turning point in the life of a woman who has been raising two children alone for more than 10 years.

When she discovered an ancient tree branch cracked and broken, about to fall right when two students passed by, Ms. Tinh did not have time to think about her safety. The female worker rushed to pull the two children out of the dangerous area. The two students escaped by a hair's breadth, while she was crushed by that branch, suffering multiple serious injuries, and had to be transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital overnight for emergency treatment.

That is the story of the courage of an environmental worker. But from that moment on, another journey began - a journey of sharing, connecting and accompanying between the Trade Union organization, Lao Dong Newspaper and thousands of readers across the country.

On the same night, leaders of the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation were present at the hospital to visit and encourage Ms. Tinh's family. Through the process of learning, trade union officials understood even more about the difficult circumstances of the female union member.

Her husband died earlier than 10 years ago, she became the only breadwinner of the family. The environmental worker's salary of only about 5 million VND per month is not enough to cover living expenses, so outside of working hours, she takes advantage of cleaning the house for rent to have extra income to raise her two children to study.

A colleague recounted that there are days when she works from early morning until late at night before returning home, but she always smiles, just hoping that her child will have better learning conditions.

People around Tong Phong neighborhood, Nghia Lo ward shared that Ms. Tinh is a hardworking woman, lives sincerely, and often helps others. When there are common tasks of the residential group, she is always present, not hesitant.

When knowing about that situation, Lao Dong Newspaper had many articles reflecting on the courageous actions and difficult life of Ms. Luong Thi Tinh.

The article not only recounts a beautiful story in everyday life. More importantly, it has opened a bridge for compassion to spread.

A few days after the article was published, the editorial office continuously received phone calls and text messages from readers, businesses and philanthropists from many provinces and cities wishing to support the female workers who forgot to save people.

Some people sent a few hundred thousand VND, some sent a few million VND. Some readers did not leave their names, just sent a short message: "Please contribute a little so I can recover soon".

16.5 million VND is the contribution of readers sent to Ms. Luong Thi Tinh through the Golden Heart Labor Charity Fund. In addition, the female worker also received more than 115 million VND from philanthropists and union members and workers in the area to support.

Thanks to timely support, Ms. Tinh was reassured to run for treatment. After more than two months of treatment, from lying motionless after many surgeries, the 47-year-old woman was able to sit up on her own and start taking her first steps.

During the days in the hospital, the thing that moved me the most was knowing I was not alone. The Trade Union organization, Lao Dong Newspaper and many readers have always followed and encouraged my family. That is a great source of motivation for me to try to treat myself and return to life soon" - Ms. Tinh shared.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Nhiem - Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairwoman of the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation, the case of Ms. Luong Thi Tinh is one of many union members in particularly difficult circumstances that trade union levels seek to support when encountering difficulties. However, for sharing to come faster and wider, the companionship of Lao Dong Newspaper is very necessary.

“Immediately after Lao Dong Newspaper published the story about Ms. Tinh, we received many calls from businesses and philanthropists inside and outside the province wishing to join hands to help. This shows the great spread of Lao Dong Newspaper in connecting compassionate hearts to workers facing difficulties” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Nhiem shared.

The Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation emphasized that through the articles reflecting the lives of workers, trade union activities and the involvement of Lao Dong Newspaper, many union members in difficult circumstances in Lao Cai have been supported promptly, with more motivation to overcome adversity. Most recently, after Lao Dong Newspaper published an article about Ms. Ha Thi Nhai - a widowed female worker, struggling to raise children under a dilapidated roof, many readers joined hands to help so that her family could build a new house soon.

On behalf of the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation, we respectfully thank Lao Dong Newspaper and a large number of readers nationwide for always accompanying the Trade Union organization in caring for union members and workers. Each article not only spreads good values but also connects social resources, adding faith and willpower for workers to overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives. That is also a vivid proof of the mission of Lao Dong Newspaper over the past 97 years - always towards workers and for workers" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Nhiem emphasized.
