Positive results in a difficult context
Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh - Chairwoman of the Da Nang City Labor Federation said: In the first 6 months of 2026, the Da Nang City Labor Federation has newly established 148 grassroots trade unions, admitted 11,229 new union members, and introduced more than 1,180 outstanding union members for the Party to consider admitting.
This is a positive result in the context that many businesses are still facing difficulties, and the labor market has many fluctuations after the process of arranging organizational structure and production transformation.
However, Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh also frankly admitted that the results of union member development have not met the set requirements.
The reasons pointed out are that access to non-state-owned enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises is still difficult; the labor force is constantly fluctuating; a part of employers have not really paid attention to and created conditions for the establishment of trade union organizations.
These assessments accurately reflect the current reality. Because not every business is willing to establish a trade union. Not every worker immediately sees the benefits of joining the organization.
Mr. Tran Quoc Dung, a worker at an electronic component manufacturing enterprise in Da Nang, said that what made him decide to join the trade union was "because he saw that the trade union really helps workers when they have difficulties, from legal advice to loan support, taking care of life. When they see specific benefits, workers will voluntarily participate".
Increasing the attractiveness of the Trade Union
Mr. Dung's sharing is also part of the answer to the problem of developing union members today. To develop union members, first of all, the Trade Union organization must let workers clearly see the practical benefits as well as the belief in always being cared for and protecting their rights.
And what is noteworthy is that the Da Nang City Labor Federation has been and is gradually changing in this direction.
Over the past time, besides developing union members, the Da Nang trade union has focused more on activities to care for and protect rights, legal advice, loan support, collective negotiation, digital transformation and improve the quality of operations at the grassroots level.
These are the factors that help increase the attractiveness of the Trade Union organization.
According to Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh, from now until the end of 2026, the development of union members and the establishment of grassroots trade unions will continue to be considered a key task of the Da Nang Trade Union.
In parallel with that are cadre training, administrative reform, application of information technology and digital transformation to improve the quality of operation of the entire system.
We continue to innovate the content and methods of operation in the direction of putting union members and workers at the center. When the rights of union members are better guaranteed, the attractiveness of the organization will also be enhanced" - Ms. Linh said.
Developing union members is not the end when the target is achieved, but it is only the starting point. The important thing is that after joining the Trade Union, workers must be cared for, protected and given conditions to see that their decision to join the trade union is correct.
To do that, the trade union must continue to innovate from the approach, operating methods and the quality of "serving" union members and workers.
When each union member feels the value that the organization brings, they will become the most convincing "ambassadors" for many other workers to participate.
And then, the number of union members increasing is the natural result of an organization that is truly close, practical, and reliable to workers.
