Pham Van Thien (37 years old) - Deputy Head of the Basic Security and Order Maintenance Team at Nam Dinh said, he is currently receiving a monthly allowance of 1.4 million VND. According to Thien, this allowance is still not practical if calculated based on the number of working days.
“My team consists of 3 people, each month we work at least 2 shifts a day and go on patrol 2 shifts a night around the village. Calculating the salary of a 12-hour worker per day for 4 working days is already comparable” - Thien said.
In addition, Thien shared that in the evening, the entire team has to save on fuel costs by going together. Because if they go to all areas in the village, according to Thien, they have to travel at least 50km per shift, which is quite expensive.
Through Thien's account, we learned that his job is quite dangerous, especially in the evening. Just over a month of operation, Thien and his team members narrowly escaped injury due to the actions of hostile individuals who used force when they were discovered.
“As a basic security and order maintenance team, we have to give up our daily work. In the evening, we go on patrol, losing sleep and having to deal with health risks and threats to our lives” - Thien said.
According to Thien, the allowance should be increased to at least 1.8 million VND per month for team members, 1.9 million VND per month for deputy heads, and 2 million VND per month for team leaders. This amount, Thien said, will help himself and his family feel more secure and deserving during the working process.
Tran Van Duy (50 years old, Nam Dinh) - Team Leader of the Security and Order Maintenance Team said that if only relying on the allowance, it would not be enough to support himself, let alone dependents. Note that the current allowance for this job is 1.5 million VND per month.
“Even in the countryside, each person also needs at least 2 million VND per month for living expenses, I and my wife live together, we need at least 3 million VND per month to get by” - Duy said.
Duy also shared that when he wrote a letter to join the village's security and order maintenance team, his wife and children strongly opposed. Partly because the allowance is not commensurate, partly because they are worried about his safety while working.
“Even though it's not our shift, but whenever there's a dispute among villagers, we have to be present. At night, we often have to drink coffee and energy drinks just to stay awake and do our job” - Duy said.
To have a stable income to support his family, Duy has taken on additional work in the cooperative. As a result, time spent with the family is limited, but he earns a total allowance of over 3 million VND per month.
Duy believes that the job of ensuring basic security and order maintenance is not time-consuming, but it does affect health and is quite dangerous. Therefore, the state should pay more attention and increase the allowance to make himself feel more secure and willing to stay. Duy hopes to increase his allowance by at least 300,000 VND per month compared to the current amount.
