Mr. Nguyen The Dong rents a room on the 10th floor of CT1A building. Like many other residents, he has to endure frequent elevator breakdowns and stops working, disrupting his daily life.
“In the past, there was a time when both elevators were broken. Recently, one elevator has been broken frequently (it has been half a month now), and only one elevator is working normally. When the elevator broke down, the Social Housing Management and Development Enterprise (under Hanoi Housing Management and Development Company Limited) handled the situation faster than before, but still could not completely resolve this situation,” Mr. Dong shared.
According to Mr. Dong, many residents have complained about this situation for many years but it has not been resolved completely. Residents do not know when they will have 2 elevators operating normally, serving daily travel.
“We can only accept and live with this situation. I hope the company will have a solution to solve the problem so that the elevators can be used stably and safely for residents,” Mr. Dong shared.
Ms. B.T.N (renting on the 14th floor) said that her family uses a gas stove so every few months the gas tank has to be replaced. Normally, the gas delivery staff will come to the apartment to replace it.
“But there was a time when my house ran out of gas when both elevators were broken. If the gas was replaced, the staff had to carry the gas tank up on foot, and I had to pay an additional 100,000-150,000 VND. Because I was reluctant to spend the money, my family switched to an induction cooker, causing the electricity bill that month to skyrocket,” Ms. B.T.N recounted.
This female worker said that in the past, she had hoped that the broken elevator would be fixed, so that residents like her could move around easily and conveniently like many other apartment buildings. But over time, she has almost lost hope.
According to Ms. B.T.N, although the elevators are constantly broken, for workers who are married and have small children, the apartments here are very suitable, both in terms of area and rental price. If they rent from other households, they have to live in cramped rooms. Therefore, many workers continue to rent in this apartment building.
The last time both elevators of CT1A apartment building broke down was on September 9 and 10. Before that, the two elevators were immobile on August 30 and 31.
Mr. N.V.T (renting a room on the 10th floor) recalled that at that time, many workers returning to their hometowns for the National Day holiday on September 2 had to climb the stairs and carry heavy objects. "By the afternoon of August 31, one elevator was fixed, but the other was still broken," Mr. N.V.T recalled.
The male worker said that recently, only one elevator is working properly, the other one is often broken. During rush hours, because there is only one elevator working, there is often a situation of crowding and overload.
In recent days, in the morning, Mr. N.V.T often has to wait 5-10 minutes for the elevator to go down. The reason is that people on the upper floors get in the elevator, and when they reach his floor, it is already "filled". Once, the male worker had to let his 2 children take the elevator, while he climbed down from the 10th floor.
Although he wanted the elevator to be fixed, at this point, after many years of experiencing the "broken, repaired" refrain, Mr. N.V.T. has also lost hope. "I, like many other residents, do not know any other way, so I have to live with this situation" - Mr. N.V.T. shared.
