Lack of interview skills, candidates may miss job opportunities

Besides expertise, skills in preparing applications, demonstrating competence and behavior in interviews are also factors that employers are interested in.

Lack of preparation, many candidates miss job opportunities

Despite having a university degree and a satisfactory application, Ms. Pham Minh Anh (23 years old, Hanoi) still received many letters of refusal after the interview round.

Looking back at the application process, she realized that what made her lose points was her ability to show it to the recruiter.

Once, the recruiter asked about career orientation and how to handle situations at work, but I answered quite awkwardly. Then I realized that businesses not only look at diplomas but also evaluate the communication skills, initiative and attitude of candidates," Ms. Minh Anh shared.

Not only new graduates face difficulties in finding jobs, Mr. Tran Quoc Huy (26 years old, Hai Phong), despite having nearly 4 years of experience in the mechanical engineering field, also faces difficulties when applying for a higher position.

Despite having practical experience, Mr. Huy admitted that he did not know how to highlight his abilities in his CV and was still confused when answering professional questions.

After being rejected a few times, I revised my CV and practiced interviewing. When I prepared more carefully, the chances of being admitted also improved significantly," he said.

Employers value attitude and practical ability

According to Mr. Do Ngoc Son - Director of ST Lighthouse Soft Skills Academy, in the context of increasing recruitment requirements, candidates need to invest in presentation, communication and preparation skills before participating in the interview.

Businesses no longer only look at degrees but also care about adaptability, learning spirit and how candidates show their abilities. Good preparation will significantly increase the chances of being recruited," Mr. Do Ngoc Son said.

Mr. Do Ngoc Son said that many candidates have not yet invested properly in skills to prepare applications and interviews.

A clear, honest CV along with confidence when exchanging with recruiters will help candidates create a good impression. These are skills that need to be trained in parallel with expertise," Mr. Do Ngoc Son shared.

Agreeing with this view, Mr. Le Minh Tu (Head of QC group concurrently in charge of Project Recruitment Department, Vincons Construction Investment and Development Joint Stock Company) said that businesses currently evaluate candidates not only through qualifications but also through attitude and ability to meet the job.

Besides professional knowledge, I always value the spirit of proactiveness, responsibility and discipline. Skills can be further trained, but a positive attitude is the foundation for workers to adapt and develop long-term," Mr. Tu said.

With many direct labor positions, according to Mr. Tu, the ability to meet the job right from the beginning is often put first by businesses.

“Diplomment is an advantage in some positions, but the decisive factor is still practical experience and job aptitude. Employees need to carefully understand recruitment requirements, prepare complete documents and regularly update knowledge to improve their chances of being recruited,” Mr. Le Minh Tu emphasized.
