Supporting workers amidst peak heat

The summer of 2026 is forecast to have many record-long heat waves nationwide. Faced with harsh weather conditions, trade union levels and businesses from mountainous and coastal areas to industrial parks and urban areas have quickly joined in, deploying synchronously many practical solutions to protect health and "energize" workers to feel secure in production.

Cool water bottles to cool down in the summer

For professions that have to work directly outdoors, under the scorching and sultry sun, a bottle of cool water or a glass of electrolyte water in time has extremely great spiritual value.

Understanding this, the Trade Union of Vietnam Airlines Corporation organized a program to provide financial support to workers (NLĐ) working directly in harsh hot weather conditions at aircraft parking lots, hangar areas and warehouses in 2026 with a total amount of 603 million VND. The program is implemented in 3 areas: Noi Bai, Da Nang and Tan Son Nhat.

Mr. Bui Duy Khanh - Chairman of the Trade Union of Vietnam Aviation Food Co., Ltd. (VACS) - said that the Board of Directors of VACS Company has coordinated with the grassroots Trade Union to implement the program "Supporting cooling drinking water for workers on Tan Son Nhat parking lot", lasting until the end of July 2026.

Drinks that are changed alternately every day such as passion fruit juice, cool lemongrass juice, orange juice, fresh lemon juice... not only help cool down but also supplement vitamins, strengthen resistance and quickly provide energy for workers.

At Phan Ngoc Anh Company, Da Nang, the grassroots trade union has coordinated with businesses to simultaneously implement many activities to care for workers in all 3 production facilities of the company. In addition to dispensing cooling water daily, the trade union also organizes cleaning and sanitation of the working area, contributing to reducing the feeling of stuffiness in the factory.

At the ports, the Trade Union of Materials Joint Stock Company (under Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation - TKV) also went to the ships loading and unloading 50,000 tons of Clinke at Hon Net and 22,000 tons of coal at Hon Con Ong, Quang Ninh to hand over to workers cooling water and supplements...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xoa - representative of employees of Materials Joint Stock Company - shared: "At a time when food prices are high, we are very worried about living expenses. The concern of the company's leaders and Trade Union through supporting drinking water and supplementary food helps us feel secure in sticking to ships, sticking to the sea and completing tasks well.

Strongly invest in the working environment

Not stopping at temporary solutions, many businesses have spent large sums of money to thoroughly improve working spaces and protect workers' long-term health.

At Hai Hau Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company (Ninh Binh), the Board of Directors listened to the thoughts of workers and completed the installation of a large-capacity industrial air conditioning system at all affiliated production workshops, helping the factory atmosphere become cooler.

Since the factory was equipped with air conditioning, the working atmosphere has become much more comfortable, and everyone's spirit and health have clearly improved. A cool environment is what we desire most every summer" - Ms. Nguyen Kim Ngan, a garment worker at the factory, shared.

Meanwhile, at Thong Nhat Coal Company, the enterprise proactively reviews and adjusts working hours flexibly, minimizing working during peak hot hours. At the same time, the company strengthens technical solutions such as improving ventilation and cooling systems in production areas and deep tunnels.

Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company prioritizes supplementing many essential items to serve direct heat protection based on proposals from the grassroots level such as: heat reservoirs, ice trays, coolers, air conditioners for heavy working areas.

Taking care of nutrition and allowances for employees

To make activities deeper and more synchronous, the VNPT Trade Union (under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology) has issued an urgent directive to affiliated grassroots trade unions.

Accordingly, propagate to workers to implement a balanced diet, ensure health; drink enough water at work, prioritize electrolyte water, oresol, fruit juice to replenish water and minerals. Guide how to use personal protective equipment, sun protection and knowledge about health care, first aid.

Implement proactive measures to take care of workers' health such as: Equipping them with sun protection equipment such as wide-brimmed hats, sun protection shirts, sun masks, umbrellas, sunshades... ensuring that workers working outdoors are fully equipped and use protective equipment before working. Organize periodic health check-ups, prioritizing workers working outdoors; pay special attention to elderly workers and people with underlying medical conditions.

Grassroots trade unions, based on the unit's funding source, proactively support drinking water, milk, snacks, fruits... to supplement nutrition for union members and workers directly working outdoors during peak days.

At Tri Duc Co., Ltd. (Song Lieu ward, Bac Ninh province), the company has a heat protection allowance for employees from May to the end of September every year in cash of 3,500 VND/day. This heat protection allowance is paid into the monthly salary of employees. In addition, the company also supplements nutrition on hot sunny days (from 35 degrees Celsius or higher) with 1 box of 180ml milk and black bean sweet soup after lunch for each person. These regimes for employees have been maintained by the company from 2023 to now.

Ha Phong Export Garment Joint Stock Company (Bac Ninh province), a business, also has a cool water allowance for employees of 7,000 VND/day. On hot days above 35 degrees Celsius, employees are also supported with electrolyte water. Or at Pro Sports Hong Thuan Company (Ninh Binh), right from the beginning of May, the business has been cooking and distributing black bean sweet soup periodically every week to serve during peak hot days.

Taking care of workers in hot sunny days is not only social responsibility, but also an effective problem for businesses. As Ms. Vu Thi Thanh Ha - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Ha Phong Export Garment Joint Stock Company - affirmed: "Taking care of workers helps workers be healthy, work safely, thereby increasing labor productivity and being more long-term attached to the business.
