More than 2 years of using polluted water
As Lao Dong Newspaper has reported, many households in the resettlement area serving the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway project in Nam Hieu village, Hieu Giang commune, Quang Tri province have had to live in a state of clean water shortage for more than 2 years. Although the water supply system has been extended to their homes, people have not been connected for use, forced to depend on alum-contaminated well water, which is seriously polluted.
Here, many households have to pay for drilling wells themselves to get domestic water. However, the pumped water is cloudy yellow, heavily contaminated with alum and has an unpleasant odor, not ensuring daily life.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tao's family (60 years old) is one of the most severely affected cases. After moving to a new residence and building a house, her family had to spend more money to drill wells because there was no tap water to use. However, the well water source was polluted, causing clothes and household items to be quickly damaged and unable to be used for cooking or bathing.

According to Mrs. Tao, to ensure drinking water, each month the family has to spend about 300,000 VND to buy bottled water for daily life.
Not only Mrs. Tao's family, many other households in the resettlement area are also in a similar situation. People said that they have repeatedly petitioned for clean water connections but have to wait for a long time while life is facing enough difficulties.
In addition to the lack of clean water, many infrastructure items in the resettlement area such as roads and lighting systems have not been synchronously completed, greatly affecting people's travel and daily life.
Connecting clean water for people
On May 26, Mr. Bui Van Luat - Director of the Project Management and Land Fund Development Board of Cam Lo commune, Quang Tri province said that relevant units have coordinated with the Hieu Giang commune government to complete the connection of the clean water supply system for households in Nam Hieu village resettlement area.
According to Mr. Luat, after receiving feedback from Lao Dong Newspaper and people's opinions, the Project Management Board directly worked with Quang Tri Clean Water Joint Stock Company and related units to inspect and test the water supply system.
The inspection results showed that the system ensured technical requirements and met the conditions for operation. At the same time, legal procedures, completion documents, quality management documents and many related contents were also completed to be handed over to Quang Tri Clean Water Joint Stock Company for management and exploitation.
Currently, households in the resettlement area have signed contracts and are supplied with domestic water. Clean water supply is an urgent need to ensure living conditions and protect people's health. This is also an important step in completing infrastructure so that people can be assured and stick with their new place of residence for a long time," Mr. Luat said.

Having clean water after a long wait makes many households in Nam Hieu village resettlement area excited. From now on, people no longer have to depend on polluted well water or spend extra money to buy clean water for drinking.
Having clean water, my family is very happy. Previously, the well water was yellow and cloudy, with a foul odor, so living was very inconvenient, if we wanted to cook or drink, we had to buy bottled water. Now that tap water is connected, life will definitely be much less difficult. We, the people, are very grateful to Lao Dong Newspaper for reflecting the voice of the people so that agencies can soon pay attention and resolve it," Ms. Pham Thi Thu Linh (Nam Hieu village) expressed.
After the water supply system is put into use, people hope that relevant agencies will continue to accelerate the progress of completing the remaining items such as roads, lighting systems and auxiliary works so that the resettlement area truly becomes a stable and long-term residence.
