Helping migrant workers overcome adversity
That is the case of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dien (born in 1990, from An Giang). In 2006, Mr. Dien left his poor hometown to go to Binh Duong to find work and opportunities to change his life. In 2008, he applied to work at Box-Pak Co., Ltd., VSIP I Industrial Park, Binh Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2019, Mr. Dien had an accident, lost both legs, and suffered 85% permanent disability. When he intended to return to his hometown, the Trade Union promptly supported and coordinated with businesses to arrange suitable jobs, helping him continue to have income and stabilize his life.
Similarly, Mr. Huynh Thanh Sang (35 years old, from Binh Dinh, working at VSIP IIA Industrial Park, Binh Duong ward) also unfortunately suffered a work accident that reduced his health by 60%. Since he had an accident, trade union levels have regularly provided both material and spiritual support.
Thanks to the support of the Trade Union, I returned to work, thereby having income to cover living expenses. Every holiday and Tet, the Trade Union provides support. During Workers' Month 2026, I was supported by the Trade Union with 5 million VND. This is a great source of encouragement for me, helping me have money to cover and take care of my children" - Mr. Sang said.
Regularly review, support, and encourage workers in difficult circumstances
Every year, Trade Union levels regularly review and grasp the situation of workers' lives. At the same time, the Trade Union has policies to promptly support cases of workers far from home facing difficulties.
That is the case of Mr. Do Van Kien (40 years old, from Phu Tho province). Mr. Kien has come to Ho Chi Minh City to work as a worker in My Phuoc 2 industrial park (Ben Cat ward) for more than 10 years, but life is still unstable. Each month, the couple only has an income of about 16-20 million VND. This amount of money is only enough to cover the tight life and take care of their two children's education.
Both my husband and I are workers far from home coming to Ho Chi Minh City to start a business. Due to difficult living conditions, we still cannot buy land to build a stable house. Currently, the whole family of 4 people is still renting a room. In recent years, I have been frequently sick, going for examinations, and living expenses have increased. Last Tet, I was supported by the Trade Union with 1 million VND.
For me, this is a great encouragement. This gift helps me have more funds to cover expenses and gradually stabilize my life. Up to now, my job is quite stable, with overtime and additional income. My husband and I's wish is to buy a house to stick with Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to the Trade Union's proposal to competent authorities to develop more social housing in Ben Cat ward so that we have conditions to access cheap housing sources and soon settle down" - Mr. Kien shared.
At Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Co., Ltd. (Binh Duong ward), there are about 800 workers, most of whom are workers far from home. Recently, in some cases, workers encounter difficult circumstances, the grassroots trade union has grasped the recommendations for higher-level trade unions to provide additional support.
The Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation said that the City Trade Union has just visited and worked directly at Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Co., Ltd. and supported 10 workers facing difficulties. Receiving the support of the Trade Union, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu emotionally shared: "Most of us are workers far from home who come to Ho Chi Minh City to start a business and live. Due to many problems, life is still difficult. The concern and support of the Trade Union is a great source of encouragement for us workers to continue to stick with Ho Chi Minh City. Thank you very much to the Trade Union.
Ms. Nguyen Kim Loan - Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation said that these gifts show the concern and care of the Trade Union organization for workers. Thereby, contributing to sharing and encouraging workers to overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives, feel secure in labor production and be attached to businesses for a long time. Trade Union levels in Ho Chi Minh City will regularly review, support and accompany workers.
