One of them is the buffet cafeteria model. At Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Corporation, the buffet cafeteria model was proposed by the Union, coordinated with the professional organization to implement since 2012 at Luu Xa Steel Rolling Plant and Luu Xa Steel Smelting Plant, then replicated in all cafeterias in the entire company system.
Previously, workers ate a fixed menu of about 3-4 dishes, divided into portions. Because there were few dishes, there would be dishes that many people did not like or were not suitable. The number of people eating was large, forcing the catering staff to divide the portions early, so it was inevitable that the food would get cold... This was also the reason why food was left behind, affecting the health of the workers (because they did not eat enough nutrition) and causing waste.
The buffet cafeteria model has met the needs of union members and workers and created a positive effect. The menu is diverse according to the season, about 8-10 dishes, the food is divided into trays, has a lid, is always kept hot in winter, suitable for many subjects from office staff to direct production workers... Union members and workers can choose the menu they like, the food portion is reasonable and nutritious...
According to Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tam - President of Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union, officials of Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union will study and apply to guide all levels of Trade Unions in the system to actively improve the effectiveness of trade union institutions, especially coordinating with experts to consider implementing the model of self-service canteens in the textile and garment industry system. In the textile and garment industry, most units are joint-stock state-owned enterprises, workers work in shifts, especially in the fiber and textile production sector; over 90% of units organize industrial kitchens... Therefore, the model of self-service canteens for textile and garment workers will be very suitable.
If applied and implemented effectively, it will not only save costs but also meet and ensure the nutritional needs of many workers, including pregnant female workers, those with young children, dieters and even vegetarians...
The proactive research and learning from the experiences of the Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union has created conditions for union officials to explore and have new ideas. By promoting and improving the institutions as well as the suggested buffet cafeteria model, the units in the system will have appropriate and practical innovations and creations with real conditions so that textile workers can enjoy more and more.
