In the joyful atmosphere of the working class, the Trade Union organization of the whole country is looking towards the historic April and May days, responding to Workers' Month - Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health in 2026; preparing to organize the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union for the 2026-2031 term... on the morning of April 28, at the Vietnam - Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace, Hanoi - where 80 years ago took place the meeting to celebrate the first International Labor Day of independent Vietnam (May 1, 1946), the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) organized a solemn ceremony to celebrate the 140th anniversary of International Labor Day (May 1, 1886 - May 1, 2026); commending outstanding grassroots Trade Union (GTU) Presidents in the work of dialogue and collective bargaining in 2026.
Before the commendation ceremony took place, on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of International Labor Day (May 1, 1886 - May 1, 2026), the VGCL organized a parade with the participation of 1,000 workers.
The parade will depart at 8 am on April 28 from Tran Nhan Tong - Tran Binh Trong street to the Vietnam - Soviet Friendship Labor Culture Palace (Hanoi). The parade participants are trade union members, typical workers from many industries and fields. The parade blocks will show the spirit of solidarity, discipline, creativity and aspiration to rise up of workers in the new era.
Through this activity, the VGCL wishes to spread the message about building a modern and strong working class; and at the same time affirm the role of the Trade Union organization in caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers.
After the parade, there will be a ceremony to celebrate the 140th anniversary of International Labor Day and commend outstanding grassroots trade union presidents in collective dialogue and negotiation in 2026.
This is an opportunity to review the heroic historical tradition of struggle of the communist and international workers' movement; honor the contributions of the working class and the Vietnam Trade Union organization in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland; encourage and motivate union members and workers nationwide to emulate in labor production, contributing to the whole country to successfully achieve the goal of double-digit growth.
