According to the petition of dozens of cadres, employees and workers who have quit their jobs at Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology, with the intervention of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (DOLISA), Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology Company Limited signed a commitment to pay salary and social insurance debts in one go on November 29, 2023.
However, the company later failed to pay the social insurance, health insurance (HI), and unemployment insurance (UI) debts to the Quang Ngai Provincial Social Insurance and did not pay the employees' salaries as committed. The business owner deliberately prolonged the time to avoid debt.
Faced with the above situation, on May 7, 2024, a representative of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of the province worked with this unit on salary payment to employees.
The business representative signed a second commitment to pay the salary to the employees in 3 installments: 1st installment, no later than May 20, 2024, to pay 30% of the salary; 2nd installment, no later than June 30, 2024, to pay 30% of the salary; 3rd installment, no later than July 30, 2024, to pay 40% of the salary. However, up to now, the business owner has only paid 30% of the salary, of which 2 cases have not been paid yet.
Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Minh Canh in Tinh Hoa commune, Quang Ngai city said: “I started working at Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology in 2006, and in 2016 I wrote a resignation letter because the school owed me salary and insurance for a long time, making my life difficult. The school still owes me more than 30 million VND in salary. In addition, I worked for more than ten years, but the school only paid insurance for me for about 1.5 years and then stopped. After writing the resignation letter, I could not find a new job, and did all kinds of jobs to make a living, so my life was difficult. We really hope that the school will pay the full salary to the workers, to compensate for some of the disadvantages of the school's workers."
In addition to Mr. Canh, there are dozens of employees who have been owed wages and social insurance by the school for many years, forcing them to quit their jobs and find new ones. During the years of working but not being paid wages, many teachers and employees of the school had to borrow money from everywhere to maintain their lives.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Ms. Do Thi Kim Ty in Le Hong Phong ward, Quang Ngai city said, “Dozens of teachers and employees have been working at Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology for a long time but have been owed salaries, social insurance... with a total amount of over 1.6 billion VND. The school signed a commitment in the second phase to pay 30% of the salaries to teachers and employees, no later than June 30, 2023, but until now, we have not received salaries and insurance.”
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Nhan - Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial Labor Federation said that the responsibility for paying salary arrears and social insurance debts for teachers and employees at Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology belongs to Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology Company Limited, whose legal representative is Mr. Vo Dinh Cuong. Currently, the Quang Ngai Provincial Labor Federation has sent a document requesting the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to take measures to handle Dung Quat College of Economics and Technology, and at the same time force this school to pay salaries, social insurance... to teachers and employees.
