Developing Trade Union Bookshelves
This year is the 11th year that Synztec Vietnam Co., Ltd.'s Trade Union has maintained and developed the "Trade Union Bookcase" model. From the early days with nearly 100 titles, to date, the bookcase has been supplemented with nearly 5,000 titles of books, newspapers, stories with a variety of types: Legal books, life skills, art of conduct, health care, Vietnamese literature, foreign literature, novels...
To keep the bookshelf always attractive to employees, the company's trade union grasps the needs and aspirations of union members to regularly supplement and update new book titles.
Every day at 2 pm, employees come to borrow and return books, introducing each other to good and useful books. After more than 10 years of implementation, the Trade Union Bookcase located right next to the company's cafeteria has become a "meeting point" for Synztec employees after work hours. Some readers take advantage of lunch breaks to sit and read books and stories, and at the end of the hour, they borrow good books and newspapers to bring home to their family members. Reading books gradually becomes a useful habit for many workers" - Ms. Doan Le Thuong - Chairwoman of the Company's Trade Union - shared.
In addition to maintaining this activity, the company's trade union continues to expand propaganda forms through information boards placed at walkways, corridors, social networks... From there, bringing legal policies and social knowledge closer to employees.
According to the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, the Trade Union Bookcase model is effectively exploited and managed by city trade union levels with 3,500 legal bookshelves in workers' and business dormitories, more than 300 Trade Union relaxation corners... These bookshelves are regularly supplemented with propaganda materials, books and newspapers of all kinds, providing legal knowledge, life skills... meeting the needs of union members and workers.
In the industrial parks in East Hai Phong alone, more than 30 units have built bookshelves and libraries for workers and laborers with a total of nearly 10,000 books. Through the library model for workers, it not only helps maintain reading culture but also helps workers improve their spiritual life and cultivate professional skills to adapt to working conditions in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution.
Diversifying forms of propaganda
According to information from the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, although the city's workers and employees have developed in both quantity and quality, the lives and incomes of workers are increasingly improved. However, the cultural and spiritual life of a part of workers is still poor because extra working hours must be spent on overtime and overtime to increase income, and there is little time to access official information, read books and newspapers to improve knowledge.
Therefore, in addition to the Trade Union Bookcase model, in the period 2018-2025, Trade Union levels will issue over 2,800 newsletters at grassroots Trade Unions, 2,456 loudspeakers at enterprises, promptly propagating the Party's guidelines and legal policies to union members, workers, civil servants and laborers... The "Hai Phong Trade Union's Huong Cong App" model is also a bright spot nationwide in applying digital transformation in caring for spiritual life, updating information and policies quickly and accurately to workers...
Trade union levels focus on propagating the role of self-study, lifelong learning associated with proactively mastering knowledge and technology in diverse and rich forms (press publications, reports...); organizing training classes, fostering basic skills (electronic office, social networks, personal information security, identification, risk prevention in cyberspace...). From there, initially approaching and practicing new technologies (data analysis, artificial intelligence, open data...), building digital libraries, electronic bookshelves, promoting online learning...
In the 2025-2030 term, Hai Phong City Labor Federation continues to maintain and replicate models such as Trade Union Bookshelves, cultural activity points for workers, self-management groups in boarding houses, Ho Chi Minh cultural spaces at enterprises and boarding houses. At the same time, encourage the organization of book reading festivals, reading clubs, introducing good books; promote online competitions on law and skills to develop reading culture, improve the level and skills of workers.
