After more than 37 hours of losing contact while climbing mountains in the Tam Dao area, the 19-year-old male student was found by functional forces in a state of exhaustion but alert.
According to information from Dao Tru commune, Phu Tho province, at about 7:15 am on April 21, search team No. 8 discovered Nguyen Tuan Anh, a student at a university in Hanoi, sitting by the stream bank at an altitude of about 600 m in the mountains and forests.
Immediately after that, functional forces approached, performed first aid and took the victim out of the dangerous area. Currently, the male student's health has stabilized.
Previously, at about 6 pm on April 19, the family lost contact with Tuan Anh when he and a group of friends climbed a mountain in Vinh Ninh village, Dao Tru commune.
On the same night, local authorities mobilized more than 100 people including police, military, medical and people, divided into 8 search teams.
Functional forces also used flycams with thermal cameras to survey on a large scale in complex mountainous terrain conditions.
According to the person traveling with the group, initially there were two mountain climbing groups of 2 people and 5 people, then merged into a group of 7 people due to hiring guides together. On the way, the group met two more self-sufficient people, including Tuan Anh, and then invited them to go along.
The group departed from about 6 am on April 19, reached the summit at about 1:40 pm and started going down the mountain at 2 pm. Due to experience, the group of 5 people went first, and 3 people followed along with a guide.
During the process of going down the mountain, a member of the group behind got lost in the area near the dry stream.
The Tam Dao area has steep terrain, many interspersed trails, dense forests and often fog, easily causing foresters to lose direction, especially when separated from groups or not familiar with the terrain.
Notably, previously, Dao Tru Commune Police had repeatedly warned about the risks of spontaneous tourism activities in mountainous forests and waterfalls.
This area has a strongly divided terrain, a large slope, many slippery areas, potential risks of accidents such as slipping, flash floods, landslides and drowning, especially in the rainy season or hot weather when the number of people flocking in increases.
Some points such as Vinh Ninh waterfall, Vinh Thanh lake, Dong Mo lake have recorded accidents, mainly related to drowning and slipping.
The victims are mostly students, people from outside the locality, lacking understanding of natural conditions and terrain.
Besides the risk of accidents, spontaneous tourism also entails many consequences such as land encroachment, illegal construction, causing environmental pollution, and arising insecurity and disorder.
Faced with this situation, the Dao Tru Commune Police force has strengthened inspection and handling of violations, dismantled illegal works, installed warning signs in dangerous areas, and at the same time promoted propaganda to raise awareness among people and tourists.
Functional agencies recommend that people when participating in tourism and discovery activities should comply with regulations, do not arbitrarily enter dangerous areas, and do not participate in spontaneous tours that are not clearly organized by units.
Proactive risk prevention is considered an important factor to ensure human safety, while contributing to maintaining security, order and environment in the locality.
