- President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor NGUYEN KHANG: The achievements of Lao Dong Newspaper are the crystallization of the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and creativity - the efforts of each individual in a committed collective, always towards a common goal. That is also a testament to the attention, close leadership, and facilitation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; the coordination and support of Trade Unions at all levels.
I am very impressed with the outstanding results of the Newspaper in the period of 2020 - 2025 - a difficult period due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and fierce competition in the press environment. In that context, Lao Dong Newspaper has stood firm and had strong and comprehensive development.
Lao Dong Newspaper continues to affirm its position as the main press agency of the Trade Union organization, honestly, promptly and vividly reflecting the lives of workers, laborers and activities of Trade Unions at all levels. The newspaper has won 222 press awards (140 domestic awards, 82 international awards), 17 National Press Awards; received the Emulation Flag of the Prime Minister (2023), and the First Class Labor Medal (2024).
In digital transformation, the Newspaper has made a breakthrough: growing 252% of electronic newspaper visits, deploying English, Korean... AI applications. Social activities through the Golden Heart Social and Cultural Fund are also very effective, mobilizing more than 500 billion VND; successfully organizing many meaningful programs such as Glory of Vietnam, Tet Sum Vay, Trade Union Shelter...
From July 1, 2025, the Vietnam Trade Union officially became a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. According to the Chairman, what should Lao Dong Newspaper do to meet the new requirements?
- President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor NGUYEN KHANG: The fact that the Vietnam Trade Union has become a member directly under the Vietnam Fatherland Front affirms the stature, role and prestige of the Trade Union in the political system, while opening a new stage of development. In the common house of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Trade Union has the opportunity to closely coordinate with member organizations to unify actions, gather, unite, and encourage all classes of people, in which the working class is the central force, the core in the class alliance, promoting the great strength of the great national unity bloc.
In the new context, the Vietnam Trade Union continues to innovate the content and methods of operation, enhance representative capacity, protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers, effectively implement coordination programs, and unify actions with other member organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. At the same time, the Trade Union needs to improve the quality of cadres, modernize the apparatus, strongly apply digital technology in management, connection, and care for union members and workers.
Therefore, the role and mission of Lao Dong Newspaper for the Trade Union organization and the Vietnam Fatherland Front will become even more important. Therefore, Lao Dong Newspaper needs to focus on propagating the meaning of "belonging", ensuring the relative independence of the Trade Union organization, and expanding the responsibility for coordinating actions. Vividly reflect the gathering and mobilization of the masses by the Trade Union and other member organizations, promoting the strength of national solidarity, with workers as the center. The newspaper needs to continue to adhere to the motto: Protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers.
Lao Dong Newspaper needs to proactively grasp the practical life of workers, thereby widely propagating practical programs and activities of the Trade Union such as: Union member welfare, Tet Sum Vay, Workers' Month, Trade Union Shelter, vocational training activities, support for female workers, young workers, and informal workers. At the same time, propagate to union members and workers to raise awareness, skills, promote initiatives, creativity, and equip themselves with digital skills to become digital union members and digital citizens. In particular, it is necessary to focus on reflecting recommendations on policies and laws on labor, wages, social security, etc., which are the contents that workers are particularly interested in. Lao Dong Newspaper needs to continue to innovate its presentation methods, actively exploit digital media platforms; develop in-depth columns and articles, highlighting the strong relationship between the Trade Union and the Vietnam Fatherland Front in practice. This will contribute effectively to conveying the policies and guidelines of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front to workers, helping them understand and implement them wholeheartedly. On the contrary, the Newspaper is also an important channel to reflect the thoughts, aspirations, and genuine voices of workers to the political system. Thereby, contributing to building an increasingly strong Vietnamese working class, promoting the pioneering role in the cause of national construction and defending the Fatherland.
In 2024, Lao Dong Newspaper achieved an excellent level, increasing 2 ranks from 3rd place in 2023 to 1st place to lead the Central press agencies in the level of maturity in digital transformation of the press - a clear demonstration of the dynamism and innovation of the Newspaper's leadership team. To promote the role of connecting workers - trade unions - policies - society through digital communication platforms. What should Lao Dong Newspaper do to promote this, sir?
- President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor NGUYEN KHANG: In the new situation, leaders and the collective of cadres, reporters, editors and employees need to build Lao Dong Newspaper as a modern, multi-platform digital press agency with widespread social influence. Continue to invest in upgrading technology infrastructure, perfecting digital platforms, and technological autonomy in all stages of press production. Develop a specialized online TV channel for the Trade Union; strongly exploit artificial intelligence (AI) to improve performance, control quality, and diversify press products. In addition, strongly innovate the content of print newspapers: Increase the depth of analysis and criticism; develop regional specialized pages, enhance service for workers and laborers in industrial parks, export processing zones, remote areas. Focus on the breakthrough in digital transformation, application of information technology. Focus on implementing Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo and the action program on digital transformation of the General Confederation. Maintain itself as a press agency at the forefront of digital transformation in the central press agency sector, playing a role in connecting workers - trade unions - policies - society through digital media platforms.
To do this, it is necessary to innovate the governance mechanism and develop sustainable Newspapers. Effectively implement the model of a financial autonomous public service unit; diversify revenue sources, increase exploitation of information copyright. Build a team of managers, editors, and technicians who are capable of integrating multiple skills, adapting to new-generation journalism trends.
