Recently, this trend has been quite popular when the younger generation has a great need to "jump jobs". Regarding this issue, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters had an interview with Mr. Vu Quang Thanh - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center. He said: switching to a new job with a higher income and more development opportunities is a good thing. But if you change jobs just because of the trend-based mentality, due to the FOMO effect (fear of missing out), it can be counterproductive. According to Mr. Thanh, each worker should focus on developing skills and being patient with their work; when the opportunity is "ripe", changing jobs is the most sustainable measure for their career.
Sir, the current situation of "jumping jobs" among young workers in Hanoi is very common, please tell us why young people "jump jobs" so much without considering working and contributing long-term at a business?
- In my opinion, young workers in Hanoi tend to change jobs more often than the previous generation. Statistics show that many people have only been with a company for 1-2 years before looking for new opportunities. The main reasons are the desire for higher income, better environment or clearer career paths. There are many reasons such as the desire to learn, develop yourself, find opportunities for promotion; the job market fluctuates rapidly, many new jobs are continuously appearing; Gen Z, Millennials expect a positive environment, work-life balance; want better salary and benefits; rarely accept long-term commitment in an unsuitable environment. A part of the group chose to start a business and work freely, so they often changed jobs.

The advantage of this is that it will help workers accumulate diverse experiences, access many new skills; Expanding network of relationships, increasing career opportunities; Training the ability to adapt, improve income, promote faster and each job change, workers can negotiate better salary and benefits.
However, if you change jobs continuously, it is easy to create a feeling of instability in your career; Difficulty in building a financial foundation and long-term stability; Many employers consider the history of "jumping jobs" as a sign of lack of commitment and perseverance; Lack of time to practice specialized skills in one field, limiting long-term career development; Continuously adapting to new jobs creates pressure, stress in finance and environment and especially difficulty in building a long-term promotion roadmap and reputation in the organization.
So what advice do you have for young workers before changing jobs?
- In my opinion, first of all, workers need to clearly define their career goals, avoiding emotional decisions. We should develop in-depth skills in addition to diverse experiences, maintain good relationships with colleagues and former managers. Before changing jobs, it is necessary to carefully consider not only the salary but also the environment, promotion opportunities and stability. Especially maintaining a work-life balance, building a solid financial foundation to limit risks.
In your opinion, how will "jumping jobs" workers affect businesses and the labor market?
- For businesses: Increased recruitment and training costs; interrupted work performance; difficulty maintaining internal culture. Enterprises are forced to compete on wages, benefits and innovate human resource management policies to retain employees.
For the labor market: The trend of "jumping jobs" makes the market more flexible, creating many new working models such as freelance, remote work, short-term projects. However, traditional industries are having difficulty attracting human resources, while the demand for digital skills and soft skills is increasing.

In my opinion, there is no absolute answer to whether we should "jump jobs" or not. Changing jobs helps accumulate experience, new skills and development opportunities, but if too often, it will affect the reputation of employees, while increasing costs for businesses. Most importantly, each young worker needs to have a clear orientation, change jobs proactively and reasonably to take advantage of the opportunity, while limiting risks.
Thank you!
