AI helps US workers reduce administrative workload

Cát Tiên |

From email writing, document synthesis to communication support, AI is gradually becoming a familiar work tool, contributing to changing American working habits.

According to a new survey by Gallup Workforce - the labor force research department of the Gallup Institute, USA - conducted with more than 22,000 American workers, artificial intelligence (AI) is being applied to work at a remarkable rate.

About 12% of working adults said they use AI daily, while nearly a quarter use it at least a few times a week.

Compared to 2023, when Gallup Workforce started surveying this content, the rate of people who have used AI in work has increased from 21% to nearly 50%.

This increase reflects the strong impact of generative AI tools, notably platforms capable of writing emails, programming, summarizing long documents, creating images or answering complex questions.

Although AI has spread to many fields, the level of application is still the highest in the technology industry. About 6/10 technology employees said that they regularly use AI and about 3/10 use it every day.

However, Gallup Workforce also noted signs that the growth rate of AI applications in this group has begun to slow down after the boom period from 2024 to 2025.

Not only in the technology world, AI is also gradually becoming a familiar tool for workers in other industries. Many workers in Florida say that they regularly use AI assistants on their personal phones during shifts, thereby being able to better answer customer questions that they previously did not understand.

In the financial field, investment banking experts at Bank of America in New York said that they have used AI every day to synthesize documents and data, which were previously tasks that could take hours.

Employees also use the bank's internal chatbot to handle administrative tasks.

Education is also not outside this trend. Many teachers in California said that they have tested AI chatbots to improve communication with parents. AI also helps adjust the tone of notifications, reduce misunderstandings and limit negative feedback.

Another Gallup survey also shows that about 6/10 workers use AI based on chatbots or virtual assistants. About 4/10 workers said they use AI to synthesize information, create ideas or learn new knowledge.

Although there is still much debate about the long-term impact on the job market, AI is clearly becoming an increasingly familiar part of the American working environment.
