This change is to provide more specific guidance for parents and limit children from downloading inappropriate applications.
All apps and games on the App Store have been automatically updated by Apple to a new system, currently available in beta versions of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, tvOS 26, VisionOS 26, and watchOS 26. The official version will be released in September.
Under the new regulation, developers will have to answer more in-depth Q&A questions about sensitive content in the application, including violence, health/medicine topics, app control, and whether it contains user-generated or advertising content. Based on this information, Apple will calculate the appropriate age classification and display it on the App Store Connect.
In addition, older applications will not appear in prominent positions on the App Store such as Today, Games or apps if the user is a child.
The expansion of the age classification system shows that Apple is gradually perfecting the App Store experience in a safer and more suitable direction for each user group, especially children and adolescents.
This is also a signal that shows the increasingly clear role of parents in accompanying their children when using digital devices. With improved control tools and more transparent information, users have more basis to make the right choice when downloading the application.
