Apple allows users to change iCloud email address

For the first time, Apple will allow users to completely change their iCloud email address starting with iOS 18.1.

Previously, users could only set up an alias to send emails, but could not change or delete the original iCloud email address they set. That has now changed.

According to MacRumors, users can now change their Apple account's primary email address directly from the Settings app, and can also completely change their iCloud email address.

Previously, you could change your primary email address, but only if you deleted the other email addresses on your account. There was no direct option to change your Apple account's primary email. However, iOS 18.1 makes this easier.

To do this, in Settings, tap your name > Sign-in & Security, then tap the relevant email address.

There will be a button that says “Change Email Address”, which will allow you to completely change your iCloud email address.

It's worth noting that Apple says you'll no longer receive emails from your old @iCloud.com or @me.com address after the change. The old address will also no longer be available for FaceTime and iMessage.

This is a change for people who have had their Apple accounts for a long time and don’t like the email address they chose. You can use iCloud aliases to send emails, but when working on iCloud documents together, your real email address is often exposed. Now you can change your primary email address and keep your information more private.
