Opportunities for Vietnamese e-sports
Not only impressing with the digital ecosystem with many modern solutions for Vietnamese homes at the recent FPT Techday 2024, FPT also affirmed that the aspiration to realize the dream of Vietnamese eSports is no longer a distant thing.
In recent years, eSports has not only become a form of entertainment but has developed into a billion-dollar industry, attracting global attention. Following this trend, Vietnamese eSports has caught up and achieved many impressive achievements in the regional and international arenas.
According to Newzoo's report, Vietnam is in the top 10 countries with the largest number of gamers in the world, with more than 40 million gamers by 2023. In Vietnam, the game industry's revenue in the domestic market will reach more than 507 million USD in 2023 and an additional 200 million USD from exported games, showing the great potential of this industry.
Sharing at the talk show “New Era of Vietnam eSports” at the Techday 2024 event, Mr. Do Viet Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam eSports Association (VIRESA), commented: “Vietnam eSports is standing at the threshold with many opportunities to accelerate and make breakthroughs. In particular, after 3 SEA Games and 1 Asian Games, we have received great consensus from the community, management agencies and businesses."
Mr. TK Nguyen, CEO of GAM Entertainment, believes that eSports has a community power and has the potential to spread strongly to the entertainment industry in Vietnam. According to Mr. TK Nguyen, eSports is not only a competition but also a platform to connect the community and develop the fields of entertainment, fashion and music: “eSports is the present, it is becoming a part of pop culture, spreading to many different fields. For eSports to develop more strongly, it needs cooperation between departments, businesses and teams, together creating healthy competition and bringing Vietnamese eSports to the world level”.
The new era of eSports will rely on technology
Regarding the strategy of accompanying the development of eSport in Vietnam, FPT has recently made clear steps in upgrading infrastructure, developing new specialized services for gamers such as: Nearly doubling international bandwidth, while balancing 50-50 between transmission via submarine and land optical cables. Providing internet service packages specifically for gaming, F-Game, and integrating the Ultra Fast feature to optimize the experience.
Also at the talk show “New Era of Vietnam eSports” at Techday 2024, Mr. Hoang Viet Anh, Chairman of FPT Telecom, FPT Corporation, affirmed that technology infrastructure is a key factor to enhance the experience and develop eSports in Vietnam. “eSports is a sport that requires special conditions, in which connection infrastructure, specifically the Internet, plays an important role.
FPT will pioneer in upgrading the Internet connection with international fiber optic cables and expanding connections in competition areas and stadiums so that gamers have a more effective training and competition environment. At the same time, technologies such as Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 will also be deployed, creating a solid foundation for the development of eSports in Vietnam," said Mr. Hoang Viet Anh.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Tran Son, Head of E-Sports Development Department of VNG Games emphasized: “With the rapid development of technology, accessing eSports has become easier than ever. With just an Internet connection, gaming communities can connect, share their passion and cheer for their favorite teams, creating a unique vitality for eSports.”
