Google is preparing to bring Nano Banana image creation AI tool to the Google Messages messaging app, allowing users to edit and turn photos into meme directly in conversations.
This is a new step forward in the search giant's strategy of popularizing AI technology.
According to Android Police, this feature is discovered in the application source code along with the fried banana icon, which appears when the user hits and holds an image in the conversation.
This sign shows that Google is about to integrate Nano Banana into Messages after the tool has been successfully tested in NotebookLM, Google Lens and upcoming Google Photos.
The full capabilities of Nano Banana in the messaging app are not yet clear, but its position in the editing toolbar shows that the focus is on customization and creativity on available photos instead of creating completely new images.
Users can apply filters, clean photos, or create a fun meme with just a few steps. For example, a blurred photo can be transformed into a sharp food photo, or a photo of a friend's favorite can be transformed into a pose with a surprise character.
Google says nano Banana has helped create more than 5 billion images since its launch. Integrating it into Google Messages will help the tool reach hundreds of millions of users.
This is considered a strategic move by Google to increase competitiveness with Meta, Apple and Snapchat, all of whom are platforms that have soon brought AI to the messaging experience.
Google has not announced the official launch date of Nano Banana on Messages, but the appearance of the win- up banana icon is a signal that this feature is ready to wake up.
While waiting, users can experience Nano Banana through other Google products such as NotebookLM or Google Lens.
