On September 11 in Hanoi, Arizona State University (USA) in collaboration with the National Innovation Center (NIC) held the International Technology Innovation and Security Fund (ITSI) announcement ceremony.
Vietnam is launching a series of strategic initiatives to advance its role in the global semiconductor industry, focusing on workforce development and public policy.
These sessions come as the United States and Vietnam celebrate the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023, which is part of the International Technology Security and Innovation Fund (ITSI Fund), a key initiative of the U.S. Science and CHIPS Act designed to enhance semiconductor capacity and supply chain resilience worldwide.
Accordingly, Vietnam is one of eight strategic countries in this initiative, along with Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Indonesia, the Philippines, Kenya and India. The US Department of Foreign Affairs has supported Arizona State University with 13.8 million USD to promote human resource development and build public policies for these countries.
According to Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, the potential for cooperation between Vietnamese and US partners in the semiconductor industry and other high-tech industries is enormous and has important significance for the diplomatic relations of the two countries in the new era.
He especially believes that cooperation in the fields of semiconductors and high technology will open up many opportunities for businesses of both countries to promote and exploit each other's advantages, bringing economic benefits to businesses and to both countries.
Vietnam is working to enhance its position in the global semiconductor technology sector through workforce development strategies and public policies, as part of activities to celebrate the first anniversary of the establishment of the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with a focus on promoting Vietnam's role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
US Ambassador to Vietnam, Marc Knapper, appreciated the importance of this program in connecting organizations of the two countries. He emphasized that the US is proud to invest in Vietnam's future by supporting workforce development, creating sustainable partnerships that will shape the semiconductor industry for years to come.
In addition, ITSI Senior Coordinator Virginia Kent also affirmed that this partnership is not only about enhancing technology, but also about ensuring sustainable development and promoting prosperity through innovation. Both sides share the vision of strengthening the economy and protecting common values through this cooperation.
