Ho Chi Minh City's mark when integrating Electronic Health Book on VNeID
In recent days, people in Ho Chi Minh City have received SMS messages via phone from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee with the content: "Innovating digital healthcare, use the Electronic Health Book integrated on VNeID level 2 to conveniently manage personal health information, look up medical records and save time when going to the doctor".
This shows that the Ho Chi Minh City government is determined to promote the implementation of Electronic Health Books on the VNeID application.
According to the Prime Minister's direction, by 2025, every Vietnamese citizen, including those without a health insurance card, will have an electronic health book on the VNeID application and 30% of people will have an electronic medical record when going to the doctor.
To implement this, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector has launched a 55-day and night peak period for the entire sector to effectively deploy the Electronic Health Book integrated on the VNeID application, with the goal that each medical examination and treatment facility must be a point of propaganda and guidance for people to connect and use the Electronic Health Book when going to the doctor.
According to the latest data provided by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, up to now, 100% of health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities in the area that generate data have transferred data according to regulations, with the data transfer rate reaching 97.57%.
As of December 13, 2024, the city had 1,111,107 electronic health books, 22,408 referral papers, and 253,737 re-examination appointment papers integrated on VNeID.
The integration of Electronic Health Book on VNeID is one of the 10 outstanding events of the Ho Chi Minh City Health sector in 2024.
Practical benefits
According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai - Head of the Examination Department of People's Hospital 115, this conversion brings great benefits to people such as reducing administrative procedures, reducing waiting time, congestion when going to the doctor, saving travel costs and being able to check their own medical examination and treatment history.
At the same time, it reduces data entry time for medical staff, increases accuracy, and prevents the use of other people's health insurance cards.
Mr. Pham Dung, a person who used to regularly go for cardiovascular and diabetes check-ups in Ho Chi Minh City, said: "Now, to go to the doctor, you only need a smartphone, no need to waste time looking for documents to bring. Moreover, the medical history is also fully displayed on the application."
Ms. Thuy Lieu, residing in District 10 - Ho Chi Minh City, said that integrating the Electronic Health Book on VNeID, she has saved a lot of time in medical examination, can declare health information to receive online support; receive 24/7 support; pay via app; secure information...
But she also raised the issue of whether users should be anonymous to doctors/pharmacists during the process of providing medical records and users should be able to choose consultants, for example.
According to experts, the implementation of electronic health records on VNeID in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular is not only a technological achievement but also a macroeconomic catalyst.
This integration can help strengthen the national economy by improving productivity, reducing costs, and building an effective comprehensive healthcare ecosystem for all.
All are aimed at the big goal of people enjoying smart and civilized health care services.
