Benefits of deploying electronic health books on VNeID

HCMC - The implementation of electronic health books on the VNeID application helps save a large amount of money and is convenient for people.

According to market research firm Statista, revenue in Vietnam's e-health market will reach 926.2 million USD in 2024. With an annual growth rate of up to 9.75% from 2024-2029, the market size is expected to reach nearly 1.5 billion USD in 2029.

In addition to the large market potential, the implementation of electronic health records also brings many other benefits. To date, Vietnam has had more than 32.1 million electronic health records created, of which 14.6 million citizens have integrated electronic health records via VNeID.

The goal by 2025 is that every Vietnamese citizen, including those without a health insurance card, will have an electronic health book on the VNeID application and 30% of people will have an electronic medical record when going to the doctor.

It is estimated that the electronic health book system can help save up to over 45 million USD annually for purchasing health books with 230 million medical examinations, creating conditions for people to proactively monitor their own health.

With these benefits, in recent times, localities have promoted the integration of electronic health records on the VNeID application. In Ho Chi Minh City, as of early November 2024, there were more than 1 million electronic health records integrated on the VNeID application, more than 58,000 re-examination appointment papers and more than 5,000 referral papers integrated on the VNeID application.

According to Mr. Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the electronic health book on the VNeID application is an effective tool for managing people's health and monitoring and managing community health. This is also a platform for connecting health facility data with each other, building a digital health ecosystem, serving people's health care.

In addition, the parties are also coordinating to build electronic health books for children, especially information on vaccination (linked to parents' VNeID); build a roadmap for implementing electronic medical records; create solutions to connect electronic health book data, re-examination papers, test results, etc.

On November 14, Ho Chi Minh City launched the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Citizen App with 12 groups of features, creating a two-way communication channel between the city government and the people with easy and convenient "one-touch" interaction.

After downloading, people log in to use it only once through their Vietnamese citizen electronic identification account (VNeID account). Among the 12 feature groups, health information is of great interest to Ho Chi Minh City residents. To date, after nearly 1 month of implementation, this "super app" has had more than 12,000 downloads, with a total of about 36,000 visits and uses.
