1. master and successfully deploy new generation DNA testing technology
In 2025, the DNA Assessment Center (under the Institute of Biology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) will carry out the tasks assigned by the Prime Minister within the framework of the ODA Project "Improving the capacity to assess remains in war through cooperation in development, technology transfer and receipt of equipment, chemicals, and consumables". The project is funded by the US Government for the 2024-2026 period, with the International Committee for missing Persons (ICMP) as the research coordinator.
For the first time, the Center has cooperated in researching, developing, mastering and successfully implementing DNA assessment technology based on the single nucleotide (SNP) multiplex directive using the new generation gene sequencing (Next Generation Sequencing - NGS). This technology allows the determination of blood relationship between the father and mother lines to the 4th and 5th generations.
This is a technology that is considered suitable for the characteristics of many martyrs' remains in Vietnam, with an average buried age of 50-70 years, DNA broken down into sections of about 70bp that are not of good quality for mtDNA analysis.
