If you are using Google Keep to create daily reminders, prepare for a big change. Google has just confirmed that reminders from the Keep app will be moved to Google Tasks in the coming months, and that the process will be completed before the end of 2025.
Focus on managing tasks in one place
This merger is aimed at making it easier for users to manage work and personal plans on a single platform.
Google says that after integration, you can use Google Assistant or Gemini to set reminders, and they will automatically save them to Tasks as tasks, including implementation time and related notifications.
For example, if you ask Go Google, remind me to call your mother at 8pm, instead of saving it in Keep as before, this reminder will be recorded in Tasks. When the time comes, Google Tasks will send you a notification to help you not miss work.
Some important changes
However, the conversion does not completely retain all the old features:
- Location-based reminders are still saved in the task details section, but there will be no location-based notification.
- A reminder assigned by others will display the name of the person assigning the task in the title, but they cannot view or edit that task.
- Unfinished tasks will be displayed in Google Calendar for up to 365 days, as Unfinished tasks in the full-day section.
You can easily look up tasks through voice commands such as, "Here Google, let me see my task" or "Here Google, let me see my reminders".
Can still use Tasks without installing
Users do not have to download the Google Tasks app to use reminders, because they are still displayed in Google Calendar and Assistant. However, if you want to manage tasks more effectively, installing the Tasks application is still an option to consider.
Google's merger of reminders into Tasks demonstrates a strategy of streamlining and focusing productivity tools. Keep users should get used to Tasks soon so as not to miss the working session when the official change takes place.
