The first is “Authentication of Government Apps” on Google Play to help people easily identify legitimate Government apps. The second is enhanced protection and fraud prevention with Google Play Protect.
This initiative is the first collaboration between the Authority of Information Security (AIS), Ministry of Information and Communications and Google. Accordingly, the two sides will closely coordinate to verify the legitimacy of government applications, ensure that these applications truly represent state agencies and provide essential services to Vietnamese citizens, including public services and identification.
In return, AIS also encourages Government agencies to submit their apps for verification and authentication labeling, expanding the choice of trusted Government apps for users.
From now on, when users open the Google Play browser, they will see a “Verified Government Apps” label on legitimate apps, giving them peace of mind about the credibility of the app. This initiative is especially important as the demand for public services in Vietnam is increasing and the number of Government apps on the platform is growing rapidly.
Mr. Tran Quang Hung, Acting Director of the Department of Information Security, shared: “The new Government App Authentication feature on Google Play is a necessary addition, helping Vietnamese people easily identify and download legitimate Government apps.
This is an important step towards ensuring that citizens have easy access to reliable and authoritative government information. We appreciate Google’s commitment to implementing this program.”
Google has coordinated with AIS to label "Government Application Authenticated" for a total of more than 80 Government applications in Vietnam, including VNeID, VssID, i-SPEED of VNNIC, TCT Electronic Invoice, Ministry of Health Public Services.
To better protect users in Vietnam, Google is rolling out a new approach to Google Play Protect to prevent financial fraud. This enhanced anti-fraud protection feature will analyze and automatically block the installation of apps that request sensitive permissions, which are often used for financial fraud. This can happen when users install apps from download sources outside the Internet (web browsers, messaging apps, or file managers).
