Choosing to buy an old phone requires users not only to check the appearance and hardware but also to carefully consider the warranty status and repair history of the device. This is a key factor to help buyers evaluate the reliability and actual life of the phone, avoiding encountering products that have been severely damaged or replacing poor quality components.
According to Mr. Mark Johansson, technical expert at the international mobile warranty center PhoneCheck Labs (USA), checking repair and warranty history can be easily done if users know how to exploit the right tool.
Many devices have had their batteries replaced, their main panels fixed, or serious hardware problems. If you don't check carefully, you can buy the deeply interfered device by mistake," Mr. Mark Johansson warned.
1. Check the genuine warranty period
Most major brands such as Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi... have genuine warranty lookup websites. Users just need to access the manufacturer's website, enter IMEI number (can find by clicking *#06#) to know if the device is still guaranteed, and activation time.
- For Apple, go to checkcoverage.apple.com.
- For Samsung, go to the Samsung Vietnam support page and enter IMEI.
- For Xiaomi, use the Xiaomi Verify app or mi.com page to check.
2. See the history of repair and replacement of components
Some models such as the iPhone from the Xs and above allow users to go to Settings > General Settings > Introduction to view the "Supplement and Service History" information. If the device has replaced a battery, screen, or camera, the system will now warn that the component is not genuine or has been replaced.
In addition, specialized applications such as PhoneCheck Pro or 3uTools (for iPhone, on the computer) help scan the repair history, number of battery charging times, or the status of the original or replaced battery.
3. Buying a machine at a reputable place with a new warranty
Expert Mark Johansson recommends buying used phones only at stores with clear warranty policies and transparent repair information. Avoid buying hand-carried goods of unknown origin or from individual sellers if you do not have enough knowledge to check.
