Former US President Donald Trump">Donald Trump's Truth Social media platform has not yet been approved for distribution on the Google Play Store due to not being eligible for content censorship, according to a Google spokesperson on August 30.
Accordingly, this delay marks a decline for the application that was launched in the Apple App Store on February 21 this year.
Currently, Android phone users account for about 40% of the US smartphone market. If it is not available on Google and Apple's online stores, there will be no other easy way for smartphone users to access Truth Social.
On August 19, we informed Truth Social about some policy violations in their current app submission, and reiterated that having effective content censorship systems is a condition in our terms of service for all apps to work on Google Play, Google said in a statement.
Google said it has expressed concern to Truth Social about violating Play Store policies. Truth Social's parent company Trump Media & Technology Group did not respond to Reuters' request for comment, but in a press release, it said it has "continuously worked kindly with Google to ensure that the Android Truth Social Application complies with Google's policies without affecting its promise to become a paradise for our freedom of speech".
Furthermore, some of our competitors apps are allowed to appear in the Google Play Store despite violating Googles ban on prostitution and other policies, while Truth Social is not lenient with prostitution, added a representative of Truth Social.
Truth Social has restored former US President Donald Trump's presence on social media more than a year after he was banned from participating in Twitter, Facebook and YouTube following a riot in Capitol, USA, on January 6, 2021, after he was accused of posting messages inciting violence.
