billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Group has just announced the establishment of a new joint venture with Meta Platforms in a deal worth 855 crore rupees (equivalent to more than 100 million USD).
The goal of the joint venture is to develop and provide enterprise AI solutions to serve customers in India as well as some international markets.
The new company, called Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL), under Reliance Intelligence Limited, is the result of strategic cooperation between the two technology giants.
Reliance Intelligence will hold a 70% stake, while Meta's Facebook Overseas Holdings will own the remaining 30%, according to the filing released on October 25, 2025 on the local time BSE stock exchange.
According to Reliance, REIL will focus on developing, marketing and distributing AI services to businesses, including open source tools and sovereign AI solutions, in accordance with Indian regulations.
Notably, the company does not need any special approval from the management agency to go into operation.
Strategic progress amid trade tensions
The Meta - Reliance alliance was first announced at Reliance's 48th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) in August.
The event comes as India and the US are tense about tariffs, and India is strongly pushing for a Make in India policy.
Many Indian ministers and senior officials have switched to using domestic digital products such as Zoho or Mappls, showing that the trend of technological autonomy is being promoted.
With more than 1 billion Internet users, India is the world's second largest online market, after China and an attractive destination for global technology corporations.
AI for Indian businesses
Speaking about this partnership, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said: We believe AI can open a new era of individual empowerment. This is a big step forward to help people access technology and super intelligence.
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani affirmed that REIL's goal is to combine Meta's open-source AI power with Reliance's extensive industrial experience in the fields of energy, retail, telecommunications and manufacturing, creating AI solutions for domestic enterprises.
In addition to Meta, Reliance is also collaborating with Google to build a dedicated AI cloud infrastructure in India, starting with a large data center in Jamnagar (Gujarat), promising to become a platform for domestic AI projects in the future.
With the support of global giants, the REIL joint venture is expected to reshape the Indian enterprise AI market, while strengthening the country's position as a new AI hub in the world.
