This is part of a comprehensive plan to reshape the operating system into an operating system (Agent OS), a platform designed to bring supercapacity from AI to all users.
"All of this is to ensure that every user can enjoy the super-power of AI," said Navjot Virk, VP of Windows Experience.
In Windows 11, Microsoft is integrating a variety of AI agents, including Microsoft 365 Copilot and third-party options, directly into the taskbar.
This integration is not simply an add-on factor, but its part of the operating system experience, said Pavan Davululuri, director of Windows.
These agents are designed to become virtual assistants, capable of controlling computers and performing automatic tasks for users.
They can study the data in background while you are working, or access local files and directories to automate boring management tasks.
When required to perform a task, the AI factor will move to the taskbar and run in background mode.
Mr. Virk emphasized: "These experiences are designed so that customers can participate on their own, we want customers to have full control over the time and way they interact with Copilot and these agents."
Security and control issues are also a top priority. AI agents will have a separate workspace, separated from the user's main Windows 11 PC environment.
Microsoft is also adding Copilot to file Explorer to provide more context-based and in-depth assistance. Windows 11 users can summarize documents, answer file questions, or compose emails based on document content with just one click.
On Copilot Plus computers, click to Do is enhanced, allowing you to convert any data table on the web or computer to Excel document for easier data handling.
This data can then be edited with cloud-based AI models through Copilot mode.
A series of new AI tools have also been added to Office and the system, including: Writing support; Outlook and Word; fluid Dictation...
This combination is even more evident in Windows 365 service, where cloud computers include local Copilot Plus features and access to core cloud Copilot features.
In addition to AI features, Microsoft also announced additions focusing on important information technology. BitLocker to accelerate hardware will launch next year, requiring the next-generation Windows device to be built on silicon-powered chips.
By early 2026, the Sysmon function will be integrated into Windows, helping to display security events in the event log, making it easier for security groups to manage the system.
Finally, the intuitive interface is also updated and the new Windows Hello password manager is integrated, compatible with Microsoft Password Manager in Edge, 1 Password, and Bitwarden.
