According to information from Techcrunch, an X social network user named Fynn believes that the new Composer 2 model of AI Cursor is actually a version developed from Kimi 2.5 - a model released by Moonshot AI company. To prove the claim, this person gave a piece of code believed to contain identification information related to Kimi.
This information is noteworthy in the context that Cursor is a technology startup in the US, valued at about 29.3 billion USD after raising 2.3 billion USD last year. The company is also said to have annual revenue exceeding 2 billion USD. Previously, Cursor did not mention Moonshot AI or Kimi in the product launch announcement.
According to Techcrunch, in response to community reactions, Mr. Lee Robinson - Vice President in charge of developer training at Cursor confirmed that Composer 2 uses an open source platform. According to him, about 1/4 of the model's computing power comes from this platform, the rest is developed through the company's own training process. Cursor affirmed that Composer 2's performance is significantly different from Kimi.
A representative of Cursor also said that the use of the Kimi model is in accordance with the licensing terms. Kimi's official account on social network X later congratulated Cursor, and said that this integration is within the framework of commercial cooperation allowed with Fireworks AI.
However, not disclosing the origin of the technology from the beginning still raises questions about transparency. Mr. Aman Sanger - Co-founder of Cursor admitted that this is a shortcoming and said that the company will add information in subsequent announcements.
The incident took place in the context of increasingly fierce AI technology competition, making the origin and foundation of AI models a sensitive issue for many technology businesses.
