According to KCNA news agency, on March 22, Mr. Kim Jong Un was re-elected Chairman of the State Affairs Committee in the first session of the 15th Supreme People's Assembly (Parliament) of North Korea.
The State Council is the highest management and policy-making body, in which the head holds the role of head of state and commander-in-chief of the army.
KCNA said this decision reflects the will and common aspirations of the entire North Korean people towards Mr. Kim Jong Un, who continues to hold the highest leadership position of the country.
Previously, Mr. Kim Jong Un was also re-elected as General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea at the IX National Congress. After the Congress, North Korea held new National Assembly elections, and this body often meets to approve the proposed policies.
In the new term, the North Korean National Assembly is expected to consider amending and supplementing the Constitution, and at the same time discuss the 5-year economic development plan announced at the Labor Party Congress.
Speaking at the opening of the Party Congress earlier, Mr. Kim Jong Un emphasized that the ruling party is facing a historic and urgent task of promoting economic development, improving people's lives and comprehensively transforming the fields of society and the state in the near future.
Since coming to power in 2011, Kim Jong Un has repeatedly emphasized the need to improve the economy, considering this a central priority in North Korea's development strategy.
