According to Lao Dong Newspaper's source, the initial cause was determined to be related to the software update process of the system. An error arising during the implementation of the update caused Facebook and Messenger to encounter widespread problems.
The incident began to appear at about 8:50 PM (Vietnam time). Many users reported being logged out of Facebook and Messenger on both mobile applications and web browsers. During the incident, the system continuously reported login errors or could not download content.
At about 9:23 pm, some users were able to log in again to Facebook on the computer version. However, Facebook and Messenger applications on phones still recorded unstable access status for many accounts.
According to AI expert Vu Thanh Thang - Chairman of AIZ development unit, incidents related to software updates are not uncommon for large-scale systems. Just a small change in configuration or source code can affect millions of users in a short time.
Currently, the publisher has not issued an official announcement about the cause of the incident. Users are recommended to wait for the system to fully recover and should not rush to change passwords if the account is logged out during the incident.
