Nu Village "reborn" with new concrete stilt houses

After more than a month of construction, the first concrete stilt houses at the Lang Nu resettlement area, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province have been completed.

Lang Nu resettlement area phase I is built on an area of about 10ha, arranged about 1,000m2/household; 40 houses are built with 2 floors (area 8x12m), designed in the style of traditional Tay stilt houses with auxiliary works (kitchen, toilet...). The resettlement area will have a cultural house, school, infrastructure works to ensure stable and long-term living for people.

Dang Van Manh, Deputy Head of Bao Yen District Construction Project Management Board, said that after the first house was built, the construction team encountered unfavorable weather conditions, with heavy rain at night for three consecutive days. However, the construction team remained on site, distributed the work reasonably, and worked in shifts from 6am to midnight to ensure the construction progress as planned.

At the construction site, there are more than 200 officers and soldiers along with 50 mechanical vehicles, including 5 cranes for column erection, floor assembly and wall installation of the houses. To shorten the time, the construction unit has precast concrete columns and beams and floor panels from one location and transported them to the construction site to be installed into a complete stilt house frame. Currently, the first stilt houses including wall installation and roofing, along with the kitchen have been completed.

Following the workers who were hastily assembling the stilt house, we met again Mr. Sam Van Bong, a resident of Lang Nu who also came to help install the formwork and clean up the tools after work. The recent flood had taken away 5 of his relatives and all of his house and property. Mr. Bong said that he sometimes went to the construction site to look at the working atmosphere to relax and see if the workers needed anything, because they were building houses for themselves and the villagers.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Vu Dinh Dung, Corps 12 - Commander of the construction site of the Lang Nu resettlement area, revealed a random fact - the first house to be built was house number 5 on the diagram. According to the East Asian concept of birth - aging - sickness - death, the number 5 represents the word birth, which is the beginning, the start of a new life. Hopefully, this will also be a good start in this reconstruction area.

According to the plan, Army Corps 12 and construction forces will complete the erection of 40 houses before November 30 and complete all infrastructure, electricity, water, and landscape of the Lang Nu resettlement area before December 31, 2024 to hand over to local people who lost their homes after the flash flood for use.

Previously, due to the impact of storm No. 3, Lao Cai province experienced heavy rain for many consecutive days.
On the morning of September 10, a terrible landslide occurred in Lang Nu, killing 60 people, leaving 7 missing and injuring many others.Currently, the people of Lang Nu village are living in temporary shelters, gradually stabilizing their lives.Local authorities and charitable organizations are devoting all resources, providing material and spiritual support to help them overcome their grief and move towards a better future.
