Skild AI model AI will provide "brain" for robots operating assembly lines at Foxconn's factory in Houston (USA).
This is where Nvidia's Blackwell GPU server supports are manufactured. The companies say this is one of the first commercial deployments of the "general physical artificial intelligence" technology.
Skild AI is a startup backed by Nvidia and SoftBank. The company said their AI system is designed to overcome the major limitations of today's industrial robots.
Most robots in factories are only programmed to perform a single iterative task and require many complex techniques if they want to switch to another job.
Meanwhile, Skild AI's general AI model allows robots to learn from data and adapt to many different tasks in the production line. As a result, robots can be more flexible when production processes change.
CEO of Skild AI - Mr. Deepak Pathak, said that cooperation with major robot manufacturers will help this technology quickly expand its scale.
If the software is integrated into robots that have been deployed globally, the system will collect huge amounts of data to further improve learning capabilities.
“Cooperating with original equipment manufacturers with hundreds of thousands of robots in operation will open up a path to great scale expansion and create a data vortex,” Mr. Pathak said.
Along with Nvidia, Skild AI is also partnering with ABB Robotics and Universal Robots, two major industrial robot manufacturers to integrate its software directly into existing robot systems. The goal is to expand training data sources and improve robot adaptability.
These steps take place in the context of the US accelerating investment to restore domestic production capacity.
In 2025, this country announced new manufacturing investments worth about 1,200 billion USD, focusing on the electronics, pharmaceuticals and semiconductor industries.
However, many industry experts believe that bringing high-tech manufacturing back to the US on a large scale will depend significantly on the level of automation of factories.
Nvidia, the company that supplies chips for most current AI systems, also previously announced plans to produce a complete AI supercomputer in the US.
Nvidia's Vice President of Frontier Robotics and AI, Deepu Talla, said that to build an infrastructure system worth about 500 billion USD in the next few years, factories will have to automate at a higher level.
Meanwhile, SoftBank is also expanding its ambitions in the robotics sector. The group plans to acquire ABB Robotics' robotics business for 5.38 billion USD, the deal could be completed in 2026.
Earlier this year, Skild AI also raised 1.4 billion USD in investment capital, bringing the company's valuation to over 14 billion USD.
