More than 100 billion VND bridge in Hue opens to traffic but is still unfinished, posing a risk of accidents
PHÚC ĐẠT - NGUYỄN LUÂN |
HUE - Although traffic has been cleared, the bridge over the Nhu Y River still lacks railings, lighting and pedestrian walkways, posing a risk of traffic accidents.
The bridge over the Nhu Y River on Vo Nguyen Giap street (Vi Da ward, Hue city) has allowed vehicles to travel from before the Binh Ngo Tet to now, after a period of slow progress. However, this project worth more than 100 billion VND is still unfinished, many essential items are not completed, posing a risk of traffic unsafety.According to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, the bridge deck has been asphalted, and traffic in both directions is quite crowded. However, the pedestrian sidewalk has not been completed, and many sections are still jagged.Along with that, the lighting system has not been fully installed, making this area dark at night. The most worrying thing is that there are still no protective railings along the bridge deck. Some locations even reveal steel bars, posing a risk of accidents. To warn, the contractor only installed temporary wires in a few sections. These wires quickly broke after a short time, almost having no warning effect. The bridge is designed with two separate units, serving two-way traffic between Zone A and Zone B of An Van Duong new urban area, with three lanes on each side. Although it has been put into use, many important items such as railings, sidewalks, and lamppost supports have not yet been completed.Mr. Ho Hoang (resident of Vy Da ward, Hue City) said: "I go across this bridge every day. It's better during the day, but it's very dangerous in the evening because there are no lights and no railings on the bridge. Riding a motorbike and having to lean into the middle of the bridge, many times I feel very worried.Previously, at a working session with the investor, the Project Management Board of the Program for Development of Grade II Cities under the Department of Finance of Hue City at the end of February, the contractor committed to implementing the remaining items from March 1, 2026. However, according to actual records, the construction site is still silent, with no signs of construction resuming (the image of the bridge is only installed on one side of the railing). The road markings have been completed, but many items are still left open.According to a representative of the Project Management Board, the unit has repeatedly urged, but the progress is still not guaranteed. The investor has now reported and asked for opinions from functional agencies to consider a contract termination plan according to regulations.
The project belongs to package No. 28 of the type II urban development project - Hue sub-project, with a total value of more than 109.5 billion VND, constructed by Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company 479. The project started in July 2021, expected to be completed in June 2024, but continuously delayed due to site clearance and related factors.
