OpenAI has just expanded its ChatGPT-only shopping capabilities in the US, allowing users to shop on Etsy and Shopify without leaving the conversation, according to Techcrunch.
This Instant Payment feature marks a new step forward in the future of e-commerce, as AI chatbots can control product exploration, recommendation and payment.
Currently available to users ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and Free, supporting more than 1 million sellers on Spotify, including brands such as Glossier, Skims, Spanx, and Vuori to launch.
Users just need to click "Buy" to confirm the order and pay via Apple Pay, Google Pay, Stripe or credit card.
OpenAI emphasizes the results of displaying natural and unsponsored, ranking based on user involvement, and charging a small fee for each successful transaction.
The new system is built on ChatGPT's previous shopping features, helping to display products, images, reviews and prices, while answering questions such as: "What should I buy to a friend who likes pottery?" or "What are the two most beautiful sneakers for work?".
OpenAI will also open the Authorized Trade Agreement (ACP) source code, an Instant Payment support platform, so that other providers and developers can integrate payments into the AI chatbot.
That means restructuring existing commercial systems and creating new experiences powered by AI for billions of people, said Will gaybrick, president of technology and business at Stripe.
OpenAI affirmed that user payment information is processed directly by the seller, ChatGPT only plays the role of a safe intermediary.
With this step, OpenAI is competing directly with Google and Amazon, which have long dominated retail exploration and payment.
Opening up ACP and integrating payments into ChatGPT could position OpenAI as the architect of the AI e-commerce ecosystem, while creating seamless and smartly managed online shopping experiences.
